R E A L T A L K I have struggled with depression and anxiety since my teenage years. Looking back, anxiety was present during my childhood as well, but it was at the worst when I had my twins. I couldn’t drive in traffic without my heart racing, and it got to the point that just thinking about traffic caused anxiety attacks. For me, the worst part was how my anxiety presented to others. It presented as anger, irritability and paranoia. My fight, flight or freeze response wa...s in overdrive and I didn’t have an outlet. When I started making chewlery, I never realized how great these items were for anxiety. I always assumed silicone was only good for chewing, but as it turns out, fidgeting can help ease anxiety as much as chewing can for some. A lot has changed since the peak of my anxiety: new town, new career, pandemic parenting. My anxiety isn’t as high as it used to be, but, like many, there are days during all this mess that life gets overwhelming. Working in healthcare doesn’t make it any easier. So I’ve started making lanyards! Great for holding ID, safe with a quick breakaway clasp, and the silicone beads are easy to clean and disinfect.
