This is known as one of medicine’s most incredible moments. In 1922, at the University of Toronto, scientists went to a hospital ward with children who were com...atose and dying from diabetic keto-acidosis. Imagine a room full of parents sitting at the bedside waiting for the inevitable death of their child. The scientists went from bed to bed and injected the children with the new purified extract - insulin. As they began to inject the last comatose child, the first child injected began to awaken. One by one, all of the children awoke from their diabetic comas. A room of death and gloom, became a place of joy and hope. Thank You Dr. Banting and Dr. Best!- History In Pictures See more

Mindful eating during stressful times... Unlike sleeping and breathing, eating requires some deliberate engagement on our part. We need to make decisions on wha...t we gather, shop for and select. That's why mindful eating is so important - it allows us to make meaningful, clear choices about the food we're eating and why. Mindful eating can be a challenging topic for a lot of people, mainly because they are unsure of exactly what mindful eating means. Adding the stress, fear and anxiety of a pandemic, PLUS sheltering in place adds a whole new dynamic to practice mindful eating. The core principles of mindful eating: Bring awareness to nourishing properties of food through the process of food preparation and consumption Select enjoyable and nutritious foods Acknowledge food preferences non-judgmentally and give permission to enjoy fun foods Recognize and honor physical hunger and satiety cues Use wisdom to guide eating decisions These five principles of mindful eating are simple... although right now, are quite difficult. There are many feelings of uncertainty, chaos, scarcity, and much more that are driving food behaviors and choices resulting in mindLESS eating. Let's start a conversation on how to get back to the foundational basics of eating mindfully AND healthfully... How can you incorporate these principles at a time like this? What is one way you are using (or can begin using) one more or more these principles into your daily eating habits to stay grounded?

A lot of highly sensitive people are or used to be codependents who learned to over attune to others. Codependents have boundary issues. They often deal with anger because they feel bad when they need to place boundaries, so they choose to be 'nice' and get their boundaries crossed. They grow in resentment over time and when it gets too much they get angry. They are either too passive or turn angry and aggressive.

Sugar depresses the immune system for at least 8 h after it has been consumed. GMO derived sugar is the worst offender. It is Halloween and many will gorge, bu...t at least pick less of an evil (see the chart below)... The virus is still lurking and without your immune system standing on guard to protect you, you are vulnerable! Medical intervention can only do so much when your immune system is not on your side we see this in many examples: cancer, autoimmunity, Aids etc... See more

In the times that we are living there is so much stress from so many different directions. As much as living through a pandemic may seem like it is become norm...al, it is far from normal. Although we may feel like the tension on the US social unrest is not impacting us, it is. The fact that so many parts of our lives seem so uncertain, whether we want to admit it or not, it is unsettling. All of these, combined with the everyday stresses and pressures that existed before the age of virus, Trump, and riots in US streets is causing a shitshorm in peoples lives. We can see it. There is tension on peoples faces, agitated drivers on the road and scepticism for the future from everyone we speak to. Granted, the media does not help, but that is another story. As much as I get caught up in it as well, this weekend I took some time to reflect. Feeling a little like a boiling frog, I needed to step away. This brought me to feeling the need of self-care. I wrote up a plan to work on me. Every day, come hell or high water, I have a prescription of what I need to do. Work will have to take a back seat (Meaning, instead of working extra hours), Family issues can wait for an hour or two. Each day I am making a priority to pray, work out, eat lots of high nutrition foods, have a time to just rest, and be in bed at a reasonable time. I am holding myself accountable as this is my most important job. I know that I will not be able to do it all 100% each day, but I will do at least some of each every day. This is a starting point. Self care is so important. Stress reduction is vital for emotional and physical health. Take care of your number one asset. You. See more

This is what concerns me the most! Not masks or contracting Covid! It is what will be worse than dying of Covid! This can happen to anyone! It's been 7 months....and winter is looming. Mental health issues related to our lock-down and the pandemic are especially hard for people with depression, anxiety and other mental health disorders. CMHA, The Canadian Mental Health Association, has a 24-hour helpline: 1-833 456-4566. The relapse and overdose rate has increased by 30% since March 2020. Please copy and share this number it may save someone's life. Thank you!
