Lily & Pine Fibre Arts 21.11.2020

It’s a grey day here in Calgary, but these colours are giving me all the feels!! I’ve been dyeing up new fibre colours all week, a little more slowly than I had anticipated, but I’ll have new colours for you this weekend! I’ve dyed up a bunch of new Merino colours, as well as two new to me bases that I’m super excited about!! One is a 85/15 blend of Polwarth and silk, seen here in this heavenly green to purple gradient, and a blend of superwash merino, bamboo and nylon, which... is an unbelievable joy to spin!!! I’m hoping all will be dry and ready to list for Saturday! . . . . #lilyandpine #lilyandpinefibrearts #spinnersofinstagram #combedtop #spintoknit #handdyedfibre #polwarth #sockspinners See more

I couldn’t find 15 minutes each day this week for spinning, so I’m packing them all in now... still counts right?? I’m obsessed with spinning yarn for socks right now, and am working on spinning up a three ply crepe yarn using my new Polwarth and Silk combed top. I’ll have a bunch of this base in the shop for next week! . . . .... #lilyandpine #lilyandpinefibrearts #lilyandpinefibrearts #sockspinning #spinsockyarn #spinolution #spinolutionmonarch #polwarth #wemakeyarn #yarnspinning #yarnspinnersofinstagram #makeyourownyarn #combedtop #sockyarn #spin15aday See more

I spent the morning playing around with my new photo app, and so far so good! Taking photos has always been a struggle for me - I lack the patience you need for setting up the lighting and staging, and the editing afterwards. But I’m determined to improve, and have been watching lots of online courses for tips and tricks. The morning light in my dining room was perfect for capturing Yellow Brick Road on Birch Sport, such a rich a vibrant gold! . . . .... #lilyandpine #lilyandpinefibrearts #lilyandpineyarn #birchsport #yellowbrickroad #yarndyersofinstagram #yarnporn #indiedyedyarn See more

Well hello there! I’ve gotten a bunch of new followers in the past week, and it’s been a billion years since my last Meet the Maker so I thought I pop in and introduce myself! . My name is Erin, and I am the face behind Lily & Pine Fibre Arts! I started this little dyeing business of mine around 3 1/2 years ago when my back conked out on me, and I had to quit my office job. This was supposed to be just a little side hustle to give me something to do, and it’s turned out t...o be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life! . Here are some fun facts about me: - I studied journalism, English, and film in University, and seriously considered a career as a screenwriter - Before my back issues, I used to teach belly dance, as well as dance professionally for corporate events, weddings, and stagettes - I also used to teach knitting and spinning classes at Stash Lounge in Calgary, and am hoping that when covid is under control, I can return - I have Fibromyalgia and Osteoarthritis, and suffer from chronic pain. Dyeing can be tough some days, so I cope by playing my favorite music as loud as my speakers will go - I always wonder if the neighbors can hear me singing along! - I am a proud ally of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as a passionate supporter of of the BIPOC community. I will always make sure this space is a safe space for all marginalized folks, both in person and online. . That’s a little bit about me! Feel free to say hi in the comments, and share some fun facts about yourself! Since we can’t meet and get to know each other in person, I’d love to learn more about you all here! . . . . #lilyandpine #lilyandpinefibrearts #lilyandpineyarn #meetthemaker #indiedyer #indiedyersofinstagram #yarndyersofinstagram #handdyedfibre #handdyedyarn

I finally finished the sock yarn I’d been working on for the past few weeks. I used a braid of my Targhee/Silk/Bamboo blend, dyed in shades of turquoise and neon pink. I split the braid into 4 sections, then fractal plied the yarn. I didn’t really enjoy making a traditional 4-ply yarn, it was too many plies to manage, and I didn’t get as much yardage as I had hoped for. But I do love the finished look of it, and am excited to see what they look like knit up! . . . .... . #lilyandpine #lilyandpineyarn #lilyandpinefibrearts #sockyarn #spinsockyarn #sockspinning #targhee #fractalspinning See more
