Career Boost 2021 brought to you by School of Global Access at Bow Valley College It has been over a year since the pandemic started and there has been many interesting events and changes to our daily lives during this time.... Masks are now part of everyone’s daily wardrobe. People lined up for toilet paper and Lysol wipes like it was a new iphone release. Handshakes, hugs, and any kind of touching became a thing of the past. Zoom became a regular noun. Some people lived their dreams of working home then realized it was a nightmare as time dragged on. People became excited to see the delivery person like they were a long lost friend. Jobs have changed as well with companies making changes to their workforce, and the traditional office and workspace is very different like something out of a sci-fi movie. The good news is that the unemployment rate never reached the 25% that the government predicted, but the bad news is that, unfortunately, there were too many people that lost their jobs or had to find something new. One year into the pandemic and there are things that are still the same as last year and no one really knows when this will end. So the question that everyone is asking iswhat’s next? Join us for Career Boost 2021 on April 29th as we do our best to predict what’s next for Alberta. There will be speakers and a panel that will do their best to predict what’s next for Alberta. Todd Hirsch, VP and Chief Economist for ATB Financial will give his predictions about what’s next in the Alberta economy. Angela Nguyen, O&G HR professional and podcast host of The ABC’s on Tips to Becoming a Highly Sought After Candidate will give her predictions and tips on what’s next in job searching and how to be a top candidate. Our safety panel that consists of 5 top organizations will do a discussion and Q+A with guests about what’s next in workplace safety while showing how they have adapted to all the changes, and talk about why safety is more important in your job search now than ever before. If you are a job seeker or are looking for some insights on what’s next for Alberta, then register for the event at www.bit.ly/careerboost2021. The entire event will be virtual and only people who have registered will receive the event link. The talks will be recorded along with any questions that are asked by attendees.

Dream Big, Set Goals, Take Action! The Calgary Local Immigration Partnership (CLIP) has recently launched a newcomer survey. The survey is aimed at newly arrived immigrants (in the last five years or so) and asks questions about what kind of support they received when they first arrived, what helped, what barriers they experienced and how connected they feel to the community (as they define it). The goal of the survey is to gather information that then helps to improve progr...ams and services for newcomers. The survey will be open until March 31, 2021. Have you moved to Canada within the past 5 years If yes, @CLIP wants to hear from you! The survey is available in 12 languages.
