Nova is officially available for adoption! Nova is a 6 year old Pomeranian and she's a total sweetheart! Her ideal home: a family who is home a lot (she loves to be with her people), no cats, and no young kids. ... Thank you to the clinic who provided her surgery and thank you to everyone who donated towards her care. She recovered beautifully and is looking forward to going home! If interested in adopting, applications are available directly at the shelter. Applications are being accepted until Friday, November 27th. Thank you!

Yesterday afternoon our officers rescued a young opossum from the Garden City Skyway. With the assistance of OPP officers in closing down the highway, officers caught the wayward creature. We took him to Urban Wildlife Care to have Cara tend to his minor injuries. He will be released soon! As our officer Will said, easy peasy!

BELVEDEAR Male, rex lionhead mix, 3 years, neutered Belvedear needs an experienced adopter. If you are rabbit savvy (or used to a nippy little dog lol) then please consider rescuing this sweet boy. He can be nippy especially if confined or in a carrier. Someone savvy with bunny body language generally will not have too much issue. He's cool with cats, dogs and even respectful kids if he has enough space while free-range. BelvedEar is a velvety soft rex mix bunny...that means ...he's like the velveteen rabbit (remember that tear-jerking story from Grade 4...just gutting!!). He has a wee bit of lionhead mixed into him as he has a stylish poof of longer hair on his head that he can toss around in an emo manner. Belvedear also has gorgeous, deep and oceanic blue eyes...so captivating. Remember McDreamy from Grey's Anatomy? Well Belvedear is probably a blood relative, he has the same eyes. This handsom bun is also litter trained, used to being free range in a bunny-proofed space. He does like to chew on things so savvy bunny proofing is required. He can go home solo to a doting family or he can be bonded with a very shy spayed female bun. Email [email protected] to apply to adopt. Adoption fee is $35 and hes fixed. Once you submit a complete adoption application we will arrange for you to meet him in foster care.

ADOPTABLE BUNNY OF THE WEEK! PHILLOP is a sweet, polite, sensitive boy bunny (lop mix 1-2 years old) who would do great in a committed home ready for the responsibility and hilarity of a lovely house bunny. Check out the photo of his back - he clearly used to have wings in a prior life and is a complete angel. Lop breeds, like Phillop, are more prone to medical problems like dental and ear issues ... his adopter must be ready for more expensive than average lifetime care. On...e tooth trim can cost 250-300 per trim by a rabbit savvy dental vet and some lops need trims several times a year. Ear problems can become serious and even deadly - and need vigilance and prompt action if any symptoms detected. Phillop shows no signs of ear or dental problems - just your odds are more likely he'll roll those dice in his lifetime just due to his breed (just like how some super cute flat faced dog breeds are more prone to issues). He's on meds presently for his bladder and is recovering well. He can be adopted to bond with a lonely spayed female bunny (she should be the sassy cleopatra type ideally as opposites attract in the bunny world) OR he can go home solo to a doting family. He is a sensitive guy yet does tolerate noise like barking dogs and kids so long as he has his own safe room for relaxation away from these hooligans. He is used to being in a bunny-proof free range room. He loves head and back pets once he trusts you. He has surprising mobile loppy ears! He can move them quite a lot so you can see his various expressions :D Phillop can go home under our foster to adopt program until he is neutered - he is perfectly litter trained however neuter is mandatory and his appointment isn't for a while yet! Email [email protected] to apply to adopt. Adoption fee is $35 and includes his neuter.

Fettuccine is officially available for adoption! Fettuccine came into our care after being found as a stray. Fettuccine is listed as a young adult and he is the absolute sweetest ferret in all the lands! While napping is his favorite, he also loves to explore, run, and chase squeaky balls and toys. Ferrets are inquisitive and curious creatures that need a lot of mental stimulation. This means that you can expect to spend a lot of time allowing your ferret to play and explor...e in a safe, stimulating, enriched environment. Without this daily opportunity to get out of their cage, ferrets can get bored, stressed, and or depressed which leads them to develop behavioral and health issues. While Fettuccine may be adorable, it's important to understand the care needed to provide him a happy life! Fettuccine has been de-scented and has his rabies vaccine. His adoption fee is $150. If you're interested in adoption, please email [email protected] for an application. Thank you!

Padfoot & Prongs: 3 months old, males. Bonded pair! At the beginning of fall, two kittens were brought into the shelter after being found as a stray. Soon after their arrival, their health started to decline drastically. Their decline was fast and they were immediately placed in a foster home with a staff member who provided them with around-the-clock critical care. After a trip to the vet, they were tested for feline panleukopenia virus. Both, unfortunately, tested positiv...e. With a mortality rate of 90%, their future looked bleak. They were immediately put into quarantine inside their foster home. The white kitten, Padfoot, started to recover quickly but his brother did not. He could tell his brother was very sick and started taking care of him. He wouldn’t leave his side; always sleeping on him to keep him warm and cleaning up after him. We decided that if they both survived, we would ensure that they were adopted together. We continued to hope and both kittens miraculously ended up making a full recovery. They are thriving and no longer a risk for shedding the virus. They are now looking for their forever home together! Prongs, the black and white kitten, is very affectionate and has to be as close as physically possible to people at all times. His brother, Padfoot, is a bit more cautious. He gets nervous about new things and relies on his brother for confidence. They are both amazing kittens and deserve the best forever home possible. If interested in adopting, please email [email protected] for an application. Multiple applications will be accepted. The chosen applicant will be scheduled a meet & greet. Applications will be accepted until Monday, Dec 14th at 5:00 pm.

We were honoured to be visited by Lynn from the Royal Bank of Canada recently. Lynn, along with her colleagues made a generous donation in the amount of $2350.00 in memory of their friend and co-worker, Mary Ellen Iverson. We are truly sorry for your loss. Please know the funds will go to providing the animals with enrichment toys to play with while they are in the shelter awaiting their forever homes.
