PLEASE STOP SHARING TICK REMOVAL REMEDIES THAT ARE PUTTING THE HOST AT HIGHER RISK! Wood ticks are making headlines lately with the rising Lyme disease cases in Ontario. This is has been increasing every year and with it there is a lot of miss-information going around the internet. These remedies actually putting the host at more risk. Remedies such as applying jelly, soap, cream, cigarettes, matches, Vaseline etc. are all wrong. These actions will irritate the tick and put ...it into survival mode where it will increase the toxins being transferred into the host. This increases the chances of transmitting the disease. The best way to remove a tick is still WITH NEEDLE NOSE TWEEZERS in one motion. Even if the head becomes detached while pulling, the toxins are within the body of the tick and cant be transferred any more one detached. That transference of the toxin is the dangerous part. Please do some research before sharing these methods, you are just putting your friends at greater risk with these methods. They might "work", but it doesnt mean its right. Upcoming Joint Health & Safety Committee Certification dates are now posted for January/February and will be the last training dates offered before the new training standards take effect on March 1. With the new standards JHSC training will be extended requiring extra days of training for Part 1 & 2, as well as the need for refresher courses afterwards in order to stay certified. Register now and beat the deadline so you can be grandfathered into the old standards that do NOT... require the extra days training and the refresher courses. Ministry of Labour has recently announced that the new JHSC standards that were to be implemented this fall will now be delayed until early next year. This offers employers the opportunity to have workers certified under the current JHSC standards before the new standards take effect. Training for JHSC Part 1 is currently a 2-day course, with the new standards training for Part 1 will be lengthened by a day making it a 3-day course. Workers trained and under the current JHSC... standards have no expiry date on certification. New standards will require certified members to take refresher courses and/or re-certification every 3 years. If you know an employer that would like to take advantage of this opportunity to get workers JHSC certified before the new standards take effect please let me know as we will be offering JHSC certification training this fall.
