URGENT NOTICE FOR YOUNG ADULTS: In the last 48 hours, London and Middlesex County have reported 244 cases of COVID-19. 132 are in young adults 18-22. You read that correctly. Over 50% of all new COVID-19 cases in the last two days are young adults.
Wishing all of those who are observing a Holy Good Friday. #GoodFriday

Today in the The Standing Committee on the Status of Women, I was able to ask Karen Jensen of the Canadian Human Rights Commission about the long standing pay equity gap here in Canada. As it stands, Canadian women could be forced to wait until 2029 or longer to receive equal pay. This is after already waiting 50 years since the Royal Commission on the Status of Women called for it. Every year that passes is another year where the so-called feminist government participates in wage discrimination. We need equal pay for work of equal value for all women in Canada.
Every year on February 4, people across the globe unite to raise awareness and take action for World Cancer Day a day to honour and remember everyone affected by cancer. This World Cancer Day, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we can all do our part to help people with cancer. Right now, the best way to do that is to end this pandemic. Keep following public health measures and know that every step you take to protect against COVID is also protecting people with cancer, ...because the fewer COVID cases we have, the more likely it is cancer care will not be impacted. Nearly 1 in 2 Canadians expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Whether you are living with a diagnosis, know someone who is, or like me, believe in a future where no one fears cancer, today is a day to join together to support Canadians affected by cancer. With your help, we can continue to make a difference for people affected by cancer. For more information on World Cancer Day visit: cancer.ca/WorldCancerDay or canada.ca/health
Anti-Semitism, bigotry and hate has no place in our community and our country! I stand in solidarity with our London Jewish Community. As a community, we must continue to call out these callous and hatred expressions and work collectively to put an end to hate in London.
The Covid-19 pandemic has cut victims off from support networks and exacerbated intimate partner violence. The shadow pandemic of increased intimate partner violence must be met with action. This week, Randall Garrison, NDP Critic for Justice has pushed for his private members bill which would add coercive control to the criminal code to be considered expeditiously. Creating this new offence would be an important tool to stop harmful behaviour and prevent the escalation to p...hysical violence. I brought this up in the Standing Committee on the Status of Women yesterday where we have been discussing the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on women. Congratulations to Gillian Brooks on having been awarded the Canada Cord. The Canada Cord is the highest award that a Pathfinder can earn. I commend Gillian, for the remarkable efforts that brought her this high level of achievement, which has made her family, friends, community and fellow Pathfinders very proud.... #pathfinder #guirlguide
Abacus Data published a report this morning. They found that young people in Canada have been among the hardest hit by COVID-19 and they have had to make fundamental shifts in their education, employment and financial situations. Today the Prime Minister reiterated the importance of young people taking this virus seriously. I find this particularly condescending- considering his government has held nearly a billion dollars from students. It is stuck in Liberal scandal limbo and now students are left to struggle on their own. Is it the government’s position that if their Liberals friends can’t get this money, no one will?
Today at the Standing Committee on the Status of women we continue our study of COVID-19’s impact on women across Canada.
Today, It was great connecting with both, Argyle Business Improvement Association and Hamilton Road BIA to discuss issues related to small businesses and the impact of COVID-19 on local businesses. Thank you to Randy Sidhu and to Bethany Mejia for participating and providing very important updates.
Don Davies, NDP critic for Health, pointed out that Brazil successfully negotiated the right to domestically produce any vaccine that AstraZenica may develop - something that the federal government failed to do in its negotiation with the same company.Brazil now joins Australia, Japan, India and China as countries who have secured that right from AstraZeneca. "Having the right to produce a vaccine is a great way for a country to ensure all of its citizens get timely access t...o a vaccine," -Don Davies, NDP critic for Health For more Information https://www.ndp.ca//ndp-demands-answers-canadians-covid-19

On #WorldFoodDay, I celebrate the women behind the Nobel Peace Prize-winning World Food Programme. I am inspired by women like those who have partnered with th...e programme to make masks & provide food for their families during these difficult times. Thank you World Food Programme Canada!
Today the Liberals, Conservatives, & Bloc made it clear that their priorities are helping the ultra rich get even richer instead of helping struggling Canadians through this pandemic. https://www.ndp.ca//liberals-conservatives-and-bloc-side-w

There are currently over 45,000 veterans waiting for their Disability Benefit applications to be processed. A recent Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) report requested by MP Rachel Blaney (NDP Critic for Veterans) confirmed that clearing the backlog in a year would require VAC to retain all their current temporary hires and hire an additional 392 staff. The motion tabled took that incredible injustice under account and sought to support these desperate heroes. While the Liberals have been refusing to implement the NDP’s proposal for a federal dental care program for uninsured Canadians, millions of more Canadians have found themselves in need of that crucial support. Today, the Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) released an updated report in response to a request by NDP Health Critic Don Davies that proves the growing need for the NDP’s proposed dental care coverage. A year ago, the PBO found that a little over four million peopl...e across Canada would have benefitted from the NDP’s proposal to provide dental care to people in need. Today’s report shows that the need has grown to over six million people. For more information https://www.ndp.ca//more-and-more-canadians-need-federal-g
Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving
Today is the International Day of the Girl. Twenty-five years ago, some 30,000 women and men from nearly 200 countries arrived in Beijing, China, for the Fourth World Conference on Women, determined to recognize women's rights as human rights. The conference culminated in the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action: the most comprehensive policy agenda for gender equality. In the years following, women pressed this agenda forward, leading global movement...s on issues ranging from sexual and reproductive health rights to equal pay. Today, these movements have expanded. They are being organized by and for adolescent girls girls from all walks of life who are boldly demanding action against discrimination, violence and poor learning opportunities.
A Thanksgiving message from MP Lindsay Mathyssen
After keeping people with disabilities in the dark for far too long, the government has finally announced when they will be releasing the one-time payment of up to $600 for those with disabilities (October 30th). If you want to find out if you are eligible or any more information on this payment, please click on the link below
The Liberals have failed to back up their words with strong action to address systemic discrimination against women, and the Conservatives slashed funding for women’s equality while they were in power, setting us back decades. A fact many Conservative MPs like to forget.
