3 years later and here we are. I can’t believe where I’ve come from to where I am now. When I first started back in 2010 I had to borrow my fathers truck. Then I would wrap the pig in thermal wrap and pack as much ice in the pig in a cold blanket as I could to make sure it stayed the temperature it needed to be. My my things have changed. Dedication to raising pigs this way is key. Especially this time of year when I struggle to gain the motivation it takes to master all the tasks I need to achieve in a day. A working farm who’s main goal is to feed the general public a good, nutritious specialty pork isn’t all glam and photo shoots. It’s tough, and really should be known as that. It’s rewarding and blissfully beautiful but, it’s....tough. When starting all this after being in Scotland 10+ years ago I knew wha...t I was getting into. I’ve never been one to inflate the egos of the wealthy and socially advantaged. I want real everyday people eating my product damn it. My motivation is chatting with people all over Ontario saying. #loveONTfood: Jeff runs a small farrow-to-finish, family-run farm that believes in sustainable production. Their pasture-raised hogs are outdoors between spring... and fall. During the winter season, they are raised in a safe, old fashioned bank barn with an outdoor option. Jeff has been in the pig business all his life working with his parents on their farrow-to-finish operation in Huron County. In 2010, Jeff spent three months in Scotland working on an outdoor farrow-to-finish farm with 500 sows. During this time, he developed and refined his husbandry skills and learned how to raise pigs outside, working in close contact with them. He then returned to Canada and started his own family farm. Fall, our absolute favourite time of the year. Right before the worst/most miserable time of year. Until then we are happy to enjoy our roller coaster summer/fall weather for the next couple of months.
