Thanks to the wonderful Courtice residents, we were able to divert 1.75 tons of electronic waste from landfill sites through our June electronics waste recycling initiative. We’ve already started accumulating more so watch for our next waste collection in the very near future. Great work, Courtice residents!

A very special thank you to Lion Lisa’s husband, Rob for picking up and delivering a much needed working fridge to a young Courtice mom with three kids who has been using only a mini fridge for weeks. We were also able to deliver 8 boxes of canned and dry food, a bag of dairy and meat products and some personal products from our friends at Simcoe Hall Food Bank as well. Thank you to the very special neighbour across the street who has also been helping out the mom and put out the call for assistance in Courtice. Also to the generous resident who donated the fridge! I’m proud that our club could step up to help out! We Serve.

Lion’s serve! We will be hosting a community clean up of two Courtice parks over the next two Saturdays. Since the community is not supposed to be in parks during this Covid 19 Emergency, we have special permission from the Director of Operations of Clarington, allowing us to clean up the parks but with some specific rules in place. On Saturday April 25, from 10-1, members of the club and their community supporters are permitted to be in Penfound Park, cleaning up but must ...be wearing a Lion’s Club vest or tshirt and only in pairs, maintains physical distancing of 2 metres. We will have vests, gloves and bags for our registered volunteers. If you’re interested in participating for an hour on this day, please message us. A second park, Glenabbey Park, will be cleaned on Saturday May 2, weather permitting, from 10-1. Same rules apply. If you’re interested in participating for an hour on this day, please message us. Well done, Courtice Lions! A cheque for $1000 was delivered to Simcoe Hall on Thursday. It was very much appreciated! Those staff have been working tirelessly and the foodbank was even open today, the need is so urgent! They can’t have volunteers to help, I offered, so today I picked up lunch from Teddy’s for them and delivered it. Teddy’s is giving free meals, up to 5 per day for anyone needing one, so I thought it would be great to give back to them as well! We will all get through this together! Please check on your neighbours, family, friends, anyone who is vulnerable and let them know there is help available.
