With the COVID numbers on the rise, the opportunity to have a big wedding during the upcoming wedding season seems to get less likely day by day. The important thing for the Bridal Couple to remember, is that the wedding day is not really about the party and the number of people that you are planning to entertain. It is about you and the vows that you will take. Your commitment to each other happens without the pomp and circumstance. The legalization of the event takes onl...y 5 people - the bridal couple, the two witnesses and the officiant. Many couples who had to downsize from their original plans last year, had planned on having a big party this year. Unfortunately, that may not happen again until the fall. If you are one of those couples who cannot get their deposits back, hopefully the venue will be able to honour it when you do get the opportunity to celebrate. Some couples have chosen to use the wedding funds that they had saved for the down payment on a house or to purchase a car or possibly for a delayed honeymoon. Nothing is written in stone. The funds belong to you. Be responsible and do what you want, not what you think your friends expect. There will be other weddings in the years to come. Opportunities to socialize with your friends and family. I know that you won't be the centre of attention at someone else's wedding, but you can still enjoy the socialization. 2020 has been an extremely unusual year. Most couples had to alter their plans amid the COVID pandemic and the subsequent public health restrictions. But, no matter what the situation, the couples that did not postpone their ceremonies, were able to enjoy their day, celebrate with a smaller group, and finally married the person of their dreams. Every wedding this year was emotional, special and full of memories. Thank you to all these special couples. I was so fortunate to be part of your day, and my wish for each is that this Christmas, your first as legally married, is also full of memories. I wish you all the best the season can offer and May your wedding anniversaries be a reason to celebrate, year after year after year.

Once again, new restrictions have been placed on the size of gatherings. The past year has been one of change and it has been frustrating. Postponing your ceremony is one option. If you want a large gathering, it could be a long time before that dream comes true. Try to do what you want, but remember, the day isn't about the party, it is about the two of you making a commitment to stand together to face whatever comes next. If you have been together during this pandemic, ...you have obviously made a commitment to each other or you wouldn't have survived this long. All it takes to get married legally, is a marriage licence, an officiant, you and your partner and two witnesses.
