In this week's #cutenessmondays is a sweet moment that happened this weekend . My 18+ year old cat, Sam (on the left), was having a hard day on Saturday. A very hard day. His much younger brother, Reggie (almost 2), spend hours beside him, supporting him through the hardest moments of the day. ...Reggie even left the super delectable food I was trying to tempt Sam with untouched all day. Just in case Sam changed his mind Sam is feeling much better now, he started to perk up on Saturday night and has spent the last 2 days eating up everything in sight. (he just finishing up his 3rd breakfast as I'm writing this).

Ive heard it so many times: A healthy diet would be so easy if I didnt love chocolate so much. Or potato chips. Or pastries. Or anything delectable. Food cravings are an intense desire for food. Remember that word: intense. Its the intensity of a craving that makes saying no so hard to do, no matter how determined you are. You can use every ounce of willpower you have, but eventually, a moment will come when your willpower runs out, and youll indulge. ... Then, with that lovely, delectable food comes feelings of guilt and weakness and sometimes shame. Instead of enjoying this food you love, youre dripping in regret. But it doesnt have to be that way! When your body wants something so badly that you crave it, a reason is usually behind that craving. When you understand why youre craving something, all of the guilty feelings disappear like magic. So, look at this situation a bit differently. Instead of seeing cravings as something to power through, try listening to them and looking for the subtle clues your body is trying to give you. Could healthy eating actually besimple? Yes, it can. But the diet industry doesnt want you to know this. Instead, the diet industry has spent decades and millions of dollars to put that guilt-ridden little voice inside your head to tell you that you need to follow a strict diet to be healthy.... Food manufacturers love diet complexity as well. It allows them to process a food, strip it of most of its nutrients to extend the shelf-life, and then slap on a healthy label. Like low carb, high fibre, or high in protein. Anytime the food fashion changes (remember the low-fat 80s?), they just reformulate and watch the money roll in. High protein pasta anyone? Undieting takes off the shackles of confusion that the dieting industry has created. Andits simple. How? Because healthy eating is actually pretty darn easy. Well, it is if you focus on one concept whole foods. Whole foods have kept humans healthy for millennia. Theyre unprocessed, nutrient dense, and delicious. Theyre the food your body understands. Your body will never understand Doritos. Or gummy bears. Or Diet Coke. When we eat these kinds of food our body is hit with too much glucose, strong flavours, and other chemicals that it goes into a bit of a tailspin. For Doritos, the strong flavour should mean lots of nutrients (fresh veggies have strong flavours), but it gets noneso your body asks for more food. With Diet Coke, your tongue tastes a strong sweet taste, so it gets ready for a big glucose hit. But that doesnt comeso your body triggers a hunger signal. Instead, by eating whole food, food that your great-grandmother would recognize, your body understands what it is and feels more satisfied. Oh, and they also taste really good :) You dont need to count grams of protein, fat or carbsjust eat whole foods and your body will guide you to your proper balance. You dont need to count or restrict caloriesyour body will be naturally satisfied with less and your weight will balance on its own (slowly, but permanently). You dont need to follow any dietjust eat real food and enjoy it <3. My diet used to be 100% processed and now its mostly filled with whole food, but that didnt happen overnight. If your diet is like my old one, the best thing you can do today is to eat one fruit or veggie. Just one. Really taste it and feel your body light up. Then, tomorrow or next week or next month, try one more. Go at your pace and enjoy. Your body will thank you each and every time, making it easier and easier. Pure food bliss IS easy. It's in moments of imperfection that real health is created . Yes, it's when you don't eat perfectly that you can learn the most about your own body's language. When I first started working one on one with clients, I noticed a common pattern; my clients would come to the second appointment feeling fantastic. ... Between the second and third appointments, though, life would happen. They would sit down, give me a guilt-ridden look, and say, I was away last weekend and ate a ton of junk food. Theyd wait for me to add to their guilt, but thats not how I roll. Instead, I would ask, So, how do you feel?. It was usually tired, foggy, and miserable. Then Id ask, What are you craving now? The answer was always the same, VEGETABLES! I never thought Id ever crave vegetables, but thats all I want! This example demonstrates the power of staying curious. With curiosity, you can learn so much when real life happens and gets in your way. Curiosity dissolves guilt on the spot, and it allows you to see whats really going on. When your healthy habits slip, you get an opportunity to reflect on how much better you felt before the slip. It gives you a valuable before-and after view! The first day of every month has become a favourite day of mine <3. It's the day a new masterclass is added inside Your Beautiful Life.
