Hello everyone! In case you haven't met me yet, I am Dr. Lisa; Naturopathic Doctor, hiker, and lover of cappuccinos. I have been practicing in Hamilton since I graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2011. In 2016, I opened Simply Healthy, Simply Strong , an integrative clinic filled with a diverse array of practitioners (including psychotherapists, osteopathic manual therapists, RMT/medical acupuncturist/athletic therapist, a health coac...h & sound therapy/meditation expert). I love encouraging others to take an active role in their health, and lead by example. I won't ask you to do anything I wouldn't have done myself. I have been studying Qi Gong very heavily over the last 8 months, and have begun to incorporate this practice into my patient visits. I am really excited to add this lifestyle technique to patient treatment plans. Drug - free healing at its finest! I love working in Hamilton, and observing the changes of the 4 seasons on the Niagara escarpment and the local waterfalls. A reminder that we cannot bloom all year long. I am a Jill of all trades and love kayaking, camping, cycling, and stand up paddle boarding. I recently started taking figure skating lessons. For some reason though, I don't skate like Tessa Virtue...yet (). I can't wait for restrictions to lift so I can get back to the rink! Many of my patients prefer to avoid taking pills of any kind (whether it's a prescription or supplement). For some, they have difficulty swallowing capsules and tablets. These preferences do not mean there aren't solutions for you. There are a number of treatment modalities we can incorporate, such a nutrition, herbs (in liquid and tea forms), acupuncture, body work (including Reiki), Qi gong, lifestyle habits and so forth. If the issue is difficulty swallowing..., there are a number of supplements that can be consumed in a liquid format. Each patient is an individual, and I work with them to create an effective treatment plan that fits both their needs and their preferences. Friendly reminder to take a pause in nature! This past weekend, I was camping at Presquille Provincial Park with my family. It was lovely to paddle in Presquille Bay and enjoy the lily pads and waves. The water looks still here, but it was quite windy in the main open bay! A balance of yin and yang.

I was so busy yesterday I forgot it was my 4th anniversary of opening Simply Healthy, Simply Strong! Hard to believe how fast the time flies! A big thank you to all of my patients who make my job so rewarding. It's amazing to watch you grow & flourish. A very special thank you to all the lovely practitioners who practice at the clinic, as well as to the numerous colleagues out in the community that I have connected with along the way.It certainly takes a village to run a successful business, and I am grateful to have such a wonderful network of people around me! Tasty, colourful and loaded with flavour: these are the kind of meals I enjoy. I bet you do too. Organic durum pasta salad with microgreens, sausage, and roasted veggies. Why the durum wheat pasta? It has a slightly different DNA structure, and many people find it easier to digest. It also has a slightly higher protein content. And it tastes amazing. Can't tolerate wheat? Substitute with quinoa or brown rice pasta.... Directions: Prepare about 500g pasta (durum wheat or whatever you have at home). While the pasta is cooking.... On a baking sheet, roast veggies at 350 degrees F, for a few mins. Place the veggies on a baking sheet (toss with olive oil, salt and pepper). If you feel lazy, skip the roasting and serve them raw...but roasting makes them easier to digest and enhances the flavour. Veggies I used (but you can modify to what you have in the fridge) -green pepper (chopped) -broccoli head (chopped) -heirloom tomato (chopped) -handful cherry tomatoes (cut in half) Once they are softened to your liking, remove and allow them to rest for a few mins. In a separate bowl, mix: -1 cup and half pesto sauce -1 cup cheddar cheese (can be omitted or switched to another cheese or non -dairy simulation) - handful of Kalamata olives (pitted) -couple Tbsps sun-dried tomatoes and the corresponding oil -1 small Italian sausage, cooked (or could substitute tofu or tempeh) -couple Tbsps pumpkin seeds -couple Tbsps dried cranberries -salt and pepper to taste Add the roasted veggies and pasta and toss. Drizzle additional olive oil, pinch of dried basil or a couple of fresh basil leaves (chopped). And garnish with microgreens. The colours and layered flavour =delicious. Even tastier as left overs.
