The Fans by Andre Philibert André Philibert has been called the ‘Painter of the Night’ by many critics, but it would be more accurate to describe him as a painter of the full moon, of the sunrise and the sunset, or maybe even as a magician. His works depict another reality, all enveloped in blue, but so real that the viewer forgets his own. These numerous scenes of Quebec winter, with everything under snow make us feel blissful and reminiscent of childhood. The luminosity of... his landscapes create a night atmosphere of calm and quiet. We are now OPEN Tuesdays- Saturdays from 12-5. Clint by Johnathan Ball (Original) A self-described sci-fi nerd, Johnathan grew up in the era of Star Wars and Star Trek, and remains fascinated by documentaries about science, space and the future of the universe. As a teenager, he was a dedicated comic book collector and an active graffiti artist. His work has been inspired by such painters as Jean Paul Riopelle, Francis Bacon, and Salvador Dali. As such, the lines in Jonathan’s paintings are both rooted in abstract realis...m, as well as reminiscent of the angular forms of graffiti and the detailed penmanship of a graphic illustrator. CUT WORK uses a surgeon’s scalpel to create spontaneous images. A clear mind and a steady hand guide Elizabeth GregoryGruen in her exploration into shadow and light. Each image is initiated in the top layer of paper. An adhesive is added and another layer of paper , this layer is cut the process continues, until a total reverse relief is created. The organic images defined in the numerous layers of paper capture light and create shadows changing with each moment. The i...nitial Nature as Architect series explored the cut images devoid of color . The concept of divine purity is examined to transcend color to seek serenity. Light and shadow defining the whole. Using natural elements while embracing the spontaneous cut action allows the pure essence of nature to be revealed. The incorporation of controlled color in bi-color and tri-color combinations using a neutral palette akin to those found in nature bring a new dimension to the works. When an image is viewed, it appears one dimensional and exacting. Upon closer inspection, there is movement and depth. With this visual knowledge in mind the piece takes on an added intricacy. In the final act of the Trilog, Dali depicts the surrealist forces the lovers have encountered in their quest for eternal love. In the lower left, the lover is shown as a warrior overcoming his own psyche. It was his psyche which attempted to set up defenses to keep him alone and unable to accept love’s promise of unity. At the right, love’s promise continues to be thrown about by forces of nature and uncertainty. Tranquility is not yet reached.... At the top, the lightning which initially represented the tumult before the happy union now is seen as the electricity and the power of attraction the lovers will always maintain. In the bottom left centre is the light in darkness which shows the beauty, peace, and love the couple has entered for all eternity. __ Pictured: Salvador Dali, "Trilogy of Love: The Eternity of Love by Salvador Dali" Limited Edition Lithograph of 40 30" x 21" . . . #lissgallery #salvadordali #surrealism

Without the advantage of a formal art background, Robert Greatrix (@robertgreatrix ) was drawn to the technical precision and art of photography, and has progressed to be an accomplished and in demand professional photographer, shooting food, drink, and commercial work for many clients across the GTA and internationally. When he’s not under the lights of the studio, he often ventures out to shoot landscapes, both natural and urban, as well as street photography. Using long ex...posure camera techniques, he creates works that often have a sense of movement to lead one’s eye through a scene. Integrating a dark, high contrast and punchy style in his art, he is constantly looking for a story to tell with his images and immediately catch a viewer’s eye. Often shooting from uncommon angles, at odd hours and in unusual weather, Robert will tell you, he loves the challenges and continuous learning that is part and parcel with being a photographer, and it is the motivation behind his work. Venetian Lights is a painting by Artist Michael Flohr that stops you in your tracks! When you see it, you feel weightless and delighted, lost within the vivid crests of the oil painted surface. It takes you somewhere far away from where you are; you feel like you are travelling through Venice! We are being guided, brushstroke by brushstroke, into Michael Flohr’s unique imagination. We are virtually walking hand-in-hand. Through his brilliant painting, you are invited in to... become happily entranced. Perhaps this is why museum patrons sit on benches, gazing at their favourite pieces, sometimes for a minute, some for hours, yet entangled all the same. Time seems to stand still for a moment. Oh to be transported to a different place, it is such a gift! A painting is, perhaps, a timeless agreement, a dance between the Viewer and the Artist, and each has their role within the creation and experience of the artwork. One cannot exist without the other. Sit for awhile and let the sparkle of Venetian Lights take you time-traveling anytime you desire. - Michael Flohr __ Pictured: Michael Flohr, "Venetian Lights . . #lissgallery #michaelflohr #toronto

Thomas Arvid @thomasarvidfineart "Sonoma Sunset" "The Master of Realism & the Painter of Wine... Through his stunningly realistic compositions of wine, Thomas Arvid has redefined the modern still life, setting an unmatched precedent in the art world. Uniting a remarkable eye for photo-realism with a genuine talent for abstract composition, the self-taught Arvid offers an innovative commentary about a familiar subject, one he finds inexhaustible. As Arvid explains, with my paintings, there is never a complete subject; everything is interrupted. I show fragments of things and your mind creates the rest of the image. Wine is a great subject for this because it has so many elements: hot and cool surfaces, fluid, wood, chrome, cloth. But most importantly, it is familiar. You know it, so your mind fills in the composition with your own experience. Acclaimed for its ability to capture a traditional subject in a startlingly new style, his work has been featured in many influential publications, including Wine Spectator, US Art, Decor, Points North and Art World News. His talent and influence on the art world were the focus of a recent Art Business News cover story. Thomas Arvid’s natural charisma and infectious enthusiasm for wine and art impress critics and collectors alike. Ultimately, Thomas’ dedication to growth as an artist and a cultural voice stems from his desire to communicate his joy to others. My art is about so much more than wine. The paintings, like wine, are about celebration, sharing a moment and an experience with another person. My pieces are successful when I evoke an emotion, memory, or thought that the viewer wouldn’t have experienced otherwise. Wine and art are vehicles to communicate the pleasure of human experience. It is this dedication and insight that make the work of Thomas Arvid unmatched. __ Pictured: Thomas Arvid, "Sonoma Sunset" Limited Edition Giclee on Canvas 32" x 38" . . . #lissgallery #thomasarvid#torontoart
