Little Family Bites

Sometimes we indulge in sugary, nostalgic, drinks. . . The day we went to @horstingsfarm, we sat outside on their patio waiting for our amazing sandwiches. There was an elderly couple doing the same a table over from us. The woman got up and walked over to us, and with the most loving eyes and heartfelt words she explained to us that she does not have anyone do this for, and so, it would make her so happy to be able to buy the kids an ice cream treat. She asked us if we woul...d allow that, and handed us a $20 bill. . . Now, I don’t know her story, and I never will. But I do know that the kids saw a moment of Sincere generosity to a stranger, from a stranger. Sascha and I saw the joy in her eyes as we accepted her gift. And none of us will ever forget this moment. Sascha and I were hesitant to accept it. Why? We had just bought the kids a cream soda, they didn’t need an ice cream cone too. Covid has also made me very hesitant to be close to people we don’t know, and money is dirty. But as she asked, with everything she had, will you please accept this? It would make me extremely happy to be able to do this for them, we don’t have anyone to buy ice cream for, I realized that it was something she needed. Deep in her heart, she needed to share her love and kindness. And I truly believe that we all needed to accept and appreciate her kindness and her love. Acceptance of strangers, of love, of kindness. It’s a lesson that we want to teach our children, and this wonderful woman gave us that opportunity. We all benefited from such a simple act. And I hope it’s a lesson the kids can come to understand, and put to action in their lives.
