At our Briskham location we have found many bugs and worms while digging and exploring outside! We have also been learning about our classroom visitor ... a Western Toad and what kind of habitat he lives in and also what he likes to eat! Did you know the worms we found help our garden grow and are also a favorite treat for toads!

It’s been a busy week at all of our centres while the children have been hands on with winter activities. Exploring painting with ice, making their own arctic bins, painting with winter shapes and making a collaborative Christmas tree with items from a walk have been a few of the favourites this week.

We’ve been busy getting hands on making winter art learning through messy play is always a big hit in the classrooms!

The children have been very interested in the animals that reside in our local forests. Using natural materials the children created a bird habitat including hay nests, a bear den for a bear family and a beaver dam, under a bridge, using sand and moss. Such a wonderful opportunity to play, learn and explore nature.

We had frozen snowballs (baking soda) and jars full of colourful vinegar. We touched the snowballs and noticed it was cold and hard. We smelled the vinegar and discussed which colours there were. As each child dropped their snowball into the jar of their choice they watched as the baking soda reacted with the vinegar and caused a chemical reaction. Ooooh said one child. Bubbles! Exclaimed another.

Outdoor adventures make for the best provocations with the children! They collected items on a nature walk and brought them back to explore the different textures they found in nature. A great hands on exploration in this beautiful fall weather

Exploring pumpkins and making monsters in preschool this morning. We had a blast using loose parts, sticks and leaves to make our creepy skeletons and monsters. Happy fall!

Happy fall We are talking about the first day of fall by creating Leaf Man art and exploring the changing of the seasons.
