Family Tree In order to give our bunnies a sense of belonging and learn more about their own families and friends, we decided to make a family tree, with pictures of mom, dad, grandparents etc. for each bunny. Bunnies were involved in the process of cutting and gluing the pictures. After laminating the trees, we posted them on the wall around the room. Bunnies seemed to like the idea of having their family members’ pictures in the room. Sometimes they will also get jealous when they see another friend is looking or touching their family tree!

Over 30 years ago, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Audrey Hepburn gave this passionate speech as world leaders adopted the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. ...As children and families face the impacts of COVID-19, her historic words are more important now, than ever. What will you do to reimagine a brighter future for every child this #WorldChildrensDay?

Happy Friday Everyone!! This week on our daily outing we took our bunnies to a new playground that was surrounded by beautiful tall trees and tons of colourful autumn leaves. After our trip to the playground, our baby bunnies went back to the center. But since our toddlers wanted to explore more, I took them for a trail walk to Mosquito Creek.... This was a great experience too. Our toddlers were so fascinated by the spirit of the forest, the gorgeous autumn weather, leaves, twigs, sticks, tall trees, the sound of water, chirping birds, playful dogs and greeting fellow trail users. We spent a good hour walking. I’m always fascinated by our bunnies’ level of energy, interests and curiosities. Wish I could to see the world through a child’s eyes! They are so alive and really know how to be in the moment. They seemed to enjoy every second of their walk and were exploring, examining and focusing on everything. Hope you can go on some nature walks this weekend too! Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Too often, I see children reprimanded when they're not able to control their behaviours and emotions. They’re expected to remain calm and happy, not get upset, ...not display anger, and quickly calm themselves down if they do get angry or upset. If they can’t do this, they may be referred to me for "self-regulation difficulties". Here's the thing. Self-regulation is a developmental process. Just as we wouldn’t expect a child to run before they can walk, we cannot expect children to self-regulate until they’ve experienced co-regulation time and time again. And unless a child has had it modelled enough, and their brain has developed enough, they will not achieve regulation on their own. Have a think - when was the last time you heard a 3 year old say I’m so angry my sister hit me! I need to calm down. I’m just going to take myself to the kitchen for a drink of water and do some deep breaths. Co-regulation begins from birth. When babies are unsettled and we cuddle them, rock them, feed them - we are helping them to regulate. When toddlers are angry that they can't have the toy they want, and we empathise with them, sit with them, get them a drink - we are helping them to regulate. When preschoolers are upset because they're not ready to leave their playdate, and we listen and help them take deep breaths - we are helping them to regulate. Self-regulation only BEGINS to emerge around 4-5 years. And whilst some 4-5 year olds may be able to regulate themselves, others may not be able to. Both are within the typical range of development. True self-regulation is not fully established until our mid-twenties. Even then, we often turn to others to help us feel better when we are feeling low. And we are often quite happy to help other adults feel better when they're feeling low, however when children need our help, we may be reluctant to give it, perhaps in fear that we will stunt their emotional resilience (amongst many other understandable but unfounded fears). When we ask a child to regulate themselves before they're ready, we risk shaming them, affecting their self-esteem, and affecting their relationship with us. Co-regulation needs to come first. You may not be able to help your child regulate 100% of the time, and that’s okay. Just know that they may not be ready to do it themselves.

Sand, water and ice activity. Since we cant use our big sand box due to social distancing and hygiene measures, and we know the importance of these great sensory activities, especially in the summer. We decided to prepare individual sand, water, and ice activity for our bunnies, which was very successful. Bunnies seemed to like the idea and were very engaged and enjoying both activities.

Concept learning: This was a combined, colour, shape in & out activity. First bunnies choose color of the paper. Then we asked them what shape they wanted us to draw on their paper. Then we asked them to put stickers IN the shapes. Surprisingly, all of our bunnies did an excellent job!

Yesterday we took our bunnies to Delbrooke park, our little forest and trail. We go to the Delbrooke park, Mosquito Creek, a few times a week. This was the first time that we took them to the trail by the water stream. It was a great experience. We were all so fascinated by the spirit of the forest, the tall trees, the sound of water, chirping birds, creeping / crawling creatures, playful dogs and greeting fellow trail users. Our bunnies interest, curiosity and energy was wo...nderful to witness. Children really know how to live in the moment! They all seemed to enjoy every second of their walk and were exploring, examining and focusing on everything from tiny twigs to the holes in tree trunks, moss and much more. We saw some cut tree trunks here and there. We also saw some tree roots, barks and moss. We spotted some spider webs and slugs that fascinated our bunnies. We ended up eating some snacks before heading back to our daycare. At the end of our trip, we were exhausted but some of our bunnies were still full of energy! Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Happy Friday Everyone! After two months of separation, this week we welcomed some of our bunnies. We were very excited and happy to see them. In order to comply with and follow the protocols that are outlined by our provincial health authorities, CDC and licensing regulation we did extra deep cleaning and sanitation last month. To give our families, bunnies and ourselves peace of mind and to create an environment that is clean, safe, stimulating and fun we completely re-arran...ged our daycare and updated our routine, policies and procedures for both inside & outside environments. Although our bunnies are very young, they seem to try to understand and digest the New Normal. Here are a few pictures of our new normal approach. Have a lovely weekend everyone!

PLEASE READ THIS MESSAGE SENT TO ME BY CHILD CARE PROVIDER! " Dear Parents and Childcare Providers: I am very disappointed with what is happening in Canada. As a childcare provider and owner stranded overseas without access to an airport in a foreign country and foreign language, I am very baffled by the way BC is handling the childcare sector. I am seeing first hand the struggle and consequences of COVID-19. It is not something you should take lightly. I urge you to close y...our facilities immediately. You might think that the money is worth it, but it is not. I am currently stuck in a very small room with little amount of canned food, This virus is deadly and does not know religion, race, color, citizenship, borders or money. I have been trying to return home for the last month and half with very bad luck. People are dying on the streets and there is no help from anyone. You literally can't provide help and police officers are scared to even come in close contact of the sick since they are fearing for their own health. The BC government need to provide 3x or 4x the base funding and let everyone close their doors. Child care providers need to go on EI. Childcare spaces for essential workers need to be in city run daycare and should be monitored closely by health care providers and licensing officers on daily and hourly basis. If you are not a doctor or a nurse, STAY HOME. I am seeing first hand the consequences of this virus right now. I might never make it back home and not be able to say good bye to my family. This is my message to you. Please take this message into consideration when making the decision regarding your childcare facility. The next generation is relying on our decisions. Our children are trusting us and we should do the best for the health and safety of the children. The last thing you want is having a child die from COVID-19 in your facility. Had the government issued a travel advisory before my travel, I would not have been stranded here away from my family. Please be wise about this decision. Keep Safe"
