I mentioned in my stories the other day that we are alowly figuring out more about our Walker. After three years of unreliable hearing tests that indicated some loss but he always seemed to have congestion or a runny nose that likely effected the results. Being in daycare, it was hard to get him in for testing when he was perfectly healthy! We then were referred to an ENT at McMaster Children's Hospital and Walker got ear tubes nearly two years ago. Since then, more unreliabl...e tests and finally a referral to Sick Kids for a sedated test and we got reliable results and didnt have to sedate him! He was diagnosed with moderate loss in the right ear and moderate-severe in the left year and hearing aids were recommended. It was a long road that I wish went faster but we are here now and things can only get better in 2021! Elf day today! This is Fall! 28 degrees at the apple orchard. The boys loved running around, picking and eating apples but energy was drained quickly especially when your water is used to clean the apples you are eating...which was many! My fellas are water guzzlers, after 1.5hrs and zero water reserve, it was time to go! Luckily we literally live 5 minutes away. Outing on my own (with my besties too!) was a success, in my eyes. Only 1 Mommy outburst to get the boys under control?!

It was our last visit to our happy place for the year! It was different than a typical cottage weekend of swimming and sun but we had a blast! We went for a hike and a visit into town to see Dida's grave. Then a trip to Santa's Village where we got to go on a river boat, treetop trek and see the man himself! Today, 8 years ago our little bunny joined us 3 weeks early, a surprise to us all. She was a bright star just like her name and touched everyone she met. 7 birthdays without her seems crazy to me, too long, too quick, always hard. We miss her daily (hourly, by the minute) and there isn't a moment that I don't see a little blonde haired, blue eyed little girl her age now or when she left us, for that matter any age, that I don't think about her and all the what if's, if Stella... was still here physically part of our family. We don't focus on the hardships but every once in a while on special days it's much much harder and we let it be that way. I personally decided we would make it a good life despite suddenly losing Stella that horrible morning on February 18th 2014. That day, the sounds and feelings will never leave me, that's love. It makes such an imprint on you and becomes part of you. I lost a huge part of me that day and nothing can bring that back. All we can do is live on, share our memories, include Stella and although there was nothing we did wrong or could change, help inform others of safe sleep habits and hope and pray for a cure to SUDC. There are too many children lost, who slipped away suddenly and unexpectedly in their sleep, for no reason. It's not fair. It's an unknown we will always live with, but that's how it is! Our fellas are 4 today! They've kept us on our toes since their 6 week early arrival (well since I got pregnant!) But have brought so much joy, fun, craziness and love to our family. Happy Friday! Fridays for me are always special but even more now especially because the weather is going to be warm this weekend! If you are just starting you day or feels like half way through, let's be mindful of what we say and do today and try to change the things that aren't working. Or start the journey... After to listening to a few @janetlansbury podcasts on a walk, I am on a mission to STOP the repeating, STOP the yelling and frustrations, feeling like the entertain...er or teacher - or that I SHOULD be. These are crazy times and I can't do it all. But I can control what and how I say it. The boys on the otherhand, we will see. The saying "BENIGN NEGLECT" stuck in my head (listen to Unruffled March 25 episode!!), the way our parents raised us. Loving the quiet walks with my big fella. We talk about everything we see, including cemeteries and sunsets. . I hadn't been out all week so we took the boys to the local pond. I don't normally fool or play around but we started to do karate kicks and running together to get the twins into happier afternoon no nap moods! It worked! I showed them how to whack sticks onto fallen trees (with some redirection to dead trees!) To let out some of their energy and agression. It worked! Let the boys watch tv in the car while I armor-alled the interior and the crazy cleaner in me got th...e shop vac out and sucked up many bowls worth of cereal! Omg!! I also cut not three boys but 4 heads of hair today. Interesting to do Sean's. Walker fell asleep on the little stool. Not gonna lie the ptsd in me made my heart jump up into my throat but he was in fact sleeping, weirdly. It-s April!!! Week 3 Wednesday (I've lost count), Wednesdays are my meeting heavy days and we got through it! I popped in and out with the boys. The weather was gorgeous so they ate lunch outside. I told Hudson if he listened well today I had a special treat. Well..it wasn't amazing and he did have a time out but I gave them their little Spiderman eggs (check out my stories, they were ecstatic for these things!) Everyone is starting to settle in. Day 10: Can we just skip today? I only have one photo of Walker's necklace creation. We painted again because Conrad dropped his pot on the ground along with a number of other messes in the house today! I worked a lot (as I have everyday!), the bouncy castle went up again and I cleaned the main floor during dinnertime. It's Thursday which means I have a virtual date tonight (in 10 mins!!) and tomorrow is Friday.... I need to reset as a Mom. For everyone's sake. I need a routine but don't think one is possible. Day 9: It's hump day and boy does that mean a lot! Today we painted step 1 of our craft - painting terracotta pots (you will see the rest as it comes together). Hudson painted with two colours very neatly, Conrad painted like a rainbow and Walker painted his pot over and over and over again (it turned brown). They loved painting!!!! We tried to go for an afternoon walk but that seems like it's not going to work as Conrad is still adjusting to no naps. I bathed the twins whi...le Sean and Hudson went for a no complaining bike ride! I took a webinar on Managing your Child's Big Emotions. Nothing I didn't know already but a good reminder. Day 8 (technically Day 11): How can I summarize today. We had some really great play and we (they) had some challenging moments and as usual a lot of naked and half naked boys. Have you noticed that about us yet?? We danced and took our dancing to the porch where we had a quick porch party. I made the people who walked by dance and most did (the Moms at least!). Trying to keep this fun! We are in between dropping naps and have very cranky twins in the afternoon - my most tryi...ng time of the day! There were no creative pre-planned activities today. Day 4 (Thursday): Mental well-being was on the rocks so we packed up and went for a walk. What a world of good it was! Always ups and downs with the twins not walking etc but there was so much joy finding a stick and seeing the stump man! Work calls with kids screaming...the combination of work and home life! Presentation on Monday, coming together.

Day 2 (Wednesday): We set up a painting station and painted wooden animals/dinosaurs and we tried online yoga. Glad I went to the dollar store last week! The twins aren't napping much and we are sad because it was our down time to get extra work done. New norms. Day 1: The twins came home mid-day when daycare finally closed after the announcement - prior to that I got a bunch of work done. Hudson made more pompoms and tackled origami (with lots of help!), we got 30 mins of naps out of W&C with Walker getting a gigantic bloody nose, only 10 mins spent outside then Conrad toppled off the outdoor furniture head first. Walker also slipped on the tile where I mopped a bit. So typical of this house to have injuries on day 1!!!! I h...ave been told with 3 boys we should get a fast pass to the hospital!!! I told the boys, we can't get hurt as we need to stay home so be careful and play nicely... I'm not gonna lie there was a bit of yelling today (bath time and bedtime frustrations) but lots of love shown between the boys, which melts my heart. Hudson went on a 3km bike ride while the twins watched YouTube and I got some work in! We snuggked and watched a bit of "Hook" the movie. I told Hudson, trust me you will like it...his response "I don't trust you", with a little smerk on his face! Oh and I got us lunch from @awcanada drive through when I picked up the boys! whatta TREAT!!!! Who am I and why am I here? My name is Kristina, I'm a Mom of four children, three on earth and one in heaven. Stella was our first born who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly early one morning across the hall, without a sound February 18th 2014 at 19 months old for no reason to SUDC. Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood. It was a living nightmare that I STILL can't believe happened 6 years ago. I live it daily, memories of our short life together, horrors from that day, ...questions about what happened, if I could have saved her, did we do something wrong, was there something wrong. I started writing about Stella, our memories, my feelings for what I was going through, monthly in her memory. A way to remember her and a way to cope. One day a family suggested I start s blog. I didn't know anything about blogs and I'm still learning. Little Cotton Socks is the home to my thoughts, a place to share our life since losing our Daughter. We live on and our life is a pretty crazy one. I now have three little fellas who keep me very busy. And I had twins! What an adventure its been, between their cute ways, their health ups and downs and balancing work, life and living on with hope and strength through our grief...I made the decision that being happy is a choice and it doesn't change our love for Stella! That's a wrap! What a weekend! Celebrating Grandpa's birthday at the tube park and home for a nap, that didn't happen, then out for dinner. Yowsers, these fellas got comfortable at the restaurant (I'm sorry to those at @tuckersmarketplace Burlington), too comfortable, running around, hyped from no nap (I STILL LIVE FOR THEIR NAPS!! And down to bed early! . . Ok, we loved this weekend but it was a huge stretch for us! Not sure how other families pull off so many activities on the weekend. We are exhausted from the work week without doing anything more! 6 years gone sometime this morning. It still seems crazy to me that someone I made has passed away before me. But then life has changed so much in these past 6 years too. Although I know we took good care of Stella there's always what ifs and things we wish were different. I'm a different Mom now, mainly due to her being gone. We had no idea who was going to be part of our family when I was pregnant as we didn't find out her gender and we didn't know what person she would gr...ow up to be and we only know her until she was 19 months old and the next day she was gone. So quietly, unsuspecting, suddenly and unexpectedly. Those days are a blur but they've left their mark. Voices while I'm showering - because Sean found Stella that morning while I was in the shower. Thomping footsteps - from Sean stomping around in disbelief. Receiting our postal code and town several times to 911 - they didn't know where we were calling from. Snow storms - I waited at our front door for the ambulance that took too long. Police investigators - who scoured the house as part of their investigation which Stella was part of. Social workers - who stayed with us in our kitchen for hours as we waited. There are so many reminders and too many situations we should never have experienced or know about. I know about autopsies, genetic tests, cremation, funeral homes...it goes on. I try to not focus on the bad although it often creeps in. That Saturday morning of her funeral while writing my speech in her room I decided to choose happiness. I'm not sure how it happened at that time, so soon, but I realized it didn't change the fact that she was gone, our love for her, how much we missed her but it helped us to live on for the rest of our family. Today being 6 years later, the memories are a horror and the 6 years between now and then has been filled with other girls her age, other girls named Stella, similar situations and ones we will always wonder about. But the days going forward, we keep her memory alive by sharing her to our world, talking about her, including her as a member of our family even though she's not physically here. It's that time of year approaching again for the 6th time, Tuesday February 18th changed our lives forever, it was the early morning after family day weekend when our Stella quietly passed away. A day I wish never happened, but, we love our daughter and want to celebrate our memories and choose to spend our time by making the most of it and making new memories as you just don't know what the next day or moments could bring. Happy New Year! I haven't posted in some time and was trying not to stress out about it either. But still plan to post about 2020, I'll get there! Quick Xmas Recap We had a wonderful Christmas break where I had some time off, had some extreme down time and some extreme craziness too! ... We hosted one family Christmas which was really fun. I love hosting and put my everything into it from the food and decor. But it is exhausting too. But that's Christmas. We enjoyed turkey and prime rib, Santa Claus shots (so sweet!), a fun gift exchange and a yummy charcuterie table. We decorated cookies with the family, something we likely wouldn't take on at our own house with the boys but something we all really enjoyed. I had a lunch date with Sean and a coffee date with Hudson. He got a water and added vanilla powder at Starbucks Christmas morning was so fun. The boys were so excited that Santa came and ate the cookies! They were so happy with some new toys, their annual Christmas sweaters from Gran and played all break long (they looove Playmobil which was a big hit!!) We hosted our traditional Christmas day brunch! We always eat our favourite Dutch treats. And we also enjoyed the Christmas lights on a local home, its our family tradition. We had friends over to catch up for New Years Eve and closed our eyes for sleep at 12:10am!! We went swimming as a family, Hudson went skating and to camp - I'd say it was fun and memorable but now its back to school!! Ofcourse between all the busy listed above, we did missed our loved ones. Christmas is always a hard time without my Dad and Stella. Always wishing they were here with us but we know they are watching over our family. And lastly if you've made it this far, my Oma's health hasn't been well the past few days, we thought it was her time to leave us but today she seems to have turned a corner and doing better!!! She's 95 and quite the fighter. 8 years ago we lost one of our two family pillars and life hasn't been the same without him. The giver of strong kisses and hugs, the fastest and most meticulous worker with wood or whatever his huge hands got onto (oh how we miss your craft), a wine drinking buddy who would share his home and created many fun times by everyone he encountered and who enjoyed his little bit of heaven on earth with him. Generous, caring, funny, loyal and devoted, everything I hope to be as a pa...rent! I know we did what we could for him but now since learning so much more about cancer, there may have been more we could do but knowing he was a miracle for living 17 years longer with us than he should have, is a great feat! He is such a survivor in so many ways. Hudson is 5 today! Wow! Time has flown and he's been such a pleasure to have in our life. I can't help but relect on him and the big part he plays in our family. Birthdays are so important to me, a time to celebrate life! He brought new life into our family and has brought so much colour to it - our rainbow baby. He is growing up to be quite the boy and I'm so proud of him and love him dearly. Thinking back of the 5 years and 5 birthdays..this year it was a swim party with a ...nautical theme. He told me his favourite part was spending it with all of his friends. Last year a music theme, then a fishing/outdoor theme, circus theme and Teddy bear picnic! Stella: my first of four babies, always thinking about her, we enjoyed two fun summers together (they second was my fav when she was 1), I adore her name and it seems to stand out whenever it's heard, she lit up the room, she had gorgeous little legs I often magined her as a teenager with...so many things I know and think about her but so many questions too. It was only one amazing birthday party I got to plan for you girl. You had the best cake smash, quietly played and opened your presents and looked so sweet in your little dress. You deserve 6 more parties, you should have had- you would be 7 today. Just getting back into the City with reception! Thank you everyone who sent me birthday wishes on Friday. We went up to our cottage for the weekend and I feel like 40 got me - as now I'm sick but all in all such a wonderful weekend. Having a summer birthday, my birthday has always been hard growing up (as everyone was away!) but so special now as I have so many great memories celebrating outdoors and my memories are less and less about me and more about those I'm with. ... It was so adorable hearing Walker wish me a Happy Birthday in his own little way, watching Conrad take a leap jumping into the lake from the dock on his own and Hudson always making me feel like the best Mom!
