Little Free Library #1849 14.09.2020

A brand new listing of Little Free Libraries known to me as of March 16th, 2019. Ive broken Winnipeg down into rough areas - please grant me some grace with the neighbourhood names -its just to narrow down the region a bit. At least 180 LFLs in Winnipeg and 54 outside of Winnipeg - such amazing growth! Congratulations Little Free Library Steward Family! Winnipeg - St. James east of Sturgeon Road...Continue reading

Im very sorry to hear about Cheri Macaulays passing. It is a great loss - not only for her family and friends, but for Calgary Reads, Calgary Little Free Librarys and her community in general. It was hearing about Cheris Little Free Library on a National CTV Newscast that made us aware of Little Free Libraries and inspired us to build Little Free Library #1849 in 2012.

Larry Wheaton, a local Winnipeg craftsman, has been building Little Free Libraries. Here is one of his recent Little Free Libraries if you are interested in stewardship but the building process has been the obstacle. The post below contains pricing and contact information.

Spring has meant an increase in visitors and Little Free Library #1849 is in need of books for children and teens. If you have any that youd like to share, they would be welcome and very appreciated!

New locations in Winnipeg on Yale Ave., Gibraltar Bay, McDermot Ave., DeGraff Place, River Rd., St. Marys Ave. and outside Winnipeg in Brandon, Gull Lake, Gimli and New Bothwell. If youre an early bird, Marcy Markusa from CBC Information Radio will be speaking with me... about Little Free Libraries at 6:10 tomorrow morning. 89.3 on FM and 990 on AM. See more

Saddened to pass this on... Todd was the original steward and a passionate supporter of Little Free Libraries. When we erected #1849 in 2012, we emailed back and forth with both Todd and Rick Brookes. Their excitement and passion for the community building aspect of Little Free Libraries and the contribution they make to the social fabric of our lives was heartwarming. Todd Skyped in for a panel discussion on Little Free Library stewardship hosted by the Winnipeg Public Lib...rary during Culture Days in 2014. As part of that experience, the LFL organization gifted 10 registration plaques/fees for the WPL to distribute to new stewards where the cost of registration would be a hardship. From one Little Free Library in Wisconsin in 2009 to over 75,000 registered LFLs in 88 countries...(And if local proportions hold true elsewhere, likely at least an equal number of unregistered LFLs) What an amazing legacy to leave behind. Our thoughts are with Todds family and friends and the Little Free Library community at large.

Im working on a major update to the listing of local Little Free Libraries. Winnipeg LFLs will be organized roughly into sections of Winnipeg - there are just too many now to easily find one close to you when its a giant list. Ill also be sharing the additions with Kathleen over at the Big Public Library so that they can be added to the Winnipeg Public Librarys Google Map of LFLs. The amazing news is that there are at least 170 LFLs in Winnipeg now and at least another 47 in the rest of Manitoba. Incredible growth since 2012 - Excellent work Little Free Library Steward Family!

Little Free Library #1849 could really use some childrens books - particularly with Summer Break around the corner. If your children have outgrown some of their favourites, please consider sharing them with the community. Thanks!

The Winnipeg Public Library recently hosted two days of Little Free Library building and there will soon be 12 new Little Free Libraries in Winnipeg! Construction costs were funded by a grant from The Winnipeg Foundation, and hopefully this is the first of many build days. Congratulations to all the applicants who applied to be stewards and who are now able to experience the joys of LFL stewardship! Im really thrilled to show you Little Free Library #19587 located at 150 Bourkevale Drive! This beauty was erected by the Doty family, former next door neighbours to LFL #1849 and all-round great people! Jodi and her family have long had a love of Little Free Libraries. When we would go camping, or be away from the LFL, Jodi would fill in and steward LFL #1849. When the Dotys went on a family vacation to Oregon a few years ago, Jodi took local interest books inscribed wit...h a message from LFL #1849 and swapped them at LFLs along their route. Day to day, it was just reassuring that there were another set of eyes keeping watch over the LFL that loved it as much as we did. Im SO happy that you have one of your very own to lovingly steward now! I know how long youve wanted one and I look forward to seeing it in person. Welcome to the LFL family! See more
