The most rewarding of our work is seeing the children grow up and blossoming into wonderful human beings. All those explosive poo diapers, throw ups, mopping up peep, screeching screams and endless tantrums are all worth it. Someone told me today that she can't be a parent because she don't have the patience. While it is true... I think patience comes in when we see the children not as they are but what they will be. Stay focus on the things that will matter years down the road and continue to be an exemplar to your children. Love all of you to the moon and back.

COVID has changed and impact everyone’s life and daycare centres are no different. Here is a glimpse of our classroom during COVID (the pictures are taken while all our children were out for outdoor time)... You will see less toys, books, no more carpet, bean bags, soft materials and hard to wash toys. We really missed our pre-COVID lives.

Please see what our centre has been doing in response to the Stage 3 of re-opening in Toronto. We understand many parents are nervous about the change from 15 children per classroom to full capacity coming in September. We would like to ensure you that we have been doing our part to make sure we are following all the recommendation from Toronto Public Health. To be extra cautious, we will only be placing a maximum of 16 children in each of our preschool rooms and 5 children ...in each toddler rooms until December 2020. Please understand that in order to maintian a COVID free environment is a join partnership between all parties. While we do our part, we ask parents to also do theirs in making sure all the recommendation made by Toronto Public Health are followed (wear a face mask indoor and if you will be within 2m from another person who you do not live with as well as proper hand washing and sanitizing). As many of your are aware, city of Toronto is heading into stage 3 of re-opening. Soon all daycare centres will be running full capacity again - while following the new COVID policies and procedures from Toronto Public Health. In response to these, we have made more changes to our physical environment to promote physical distancing within large group of children. For example, our floor is marked to provide visual cue of various 'stations/areas' in the classroom where the chil...dren shall stay (only two children are allowed per station and the children rotate to different stations throughout the day). Our children above 2 years old continues to wear face mask throughout the day and all the toys, cots, as well as all high touch areas are washed and sanitized daily. Our toddler room will also remain closed until September next month. Though we are allowed to have full capacity in our toddler room, as teachers and parents, we do not feel comfortable with this approach and we will be keeping our toddler room to a maximum of 5 children. We will be opening two toddler rooms to accommodate this. We welcome feedback from our community. Please do let us know what your concerns are and how we can improve and do better. Thank you for your continue support.

It has been 3 days since we are opened and we are nailing it! I can't praise my staff enough. They have always been on top with all the cleaning and sanitizing policies and procedures so though the COVID guidelines from Ministry of Health looks taunting to some, it is a walk in the park for us (with a little more sweat). If you are a new or returning parents, please review the video on this page Little Giants Childcare Centre Youhttps://youtu.be/UUpm59YXOBA on some of these n...ew policies and procedures we are implementing. I will also make this new policies and procedures available on our website at LittleGiants-ChildServices.com. Once again, I wish to thanks all our parents making our re-opening stress-free and successful by following our new policies and procedures. To my wonderful staff, I wish to thank you for continuing to create a safe and nurturing environment for the children despite the challenges.

We are finally reopened on June 17. There are a lot of new procedures and policies we have to follow. Here is a short video on the changes.

After speaking to many parents and feedback from the staff, we have come to the conclusion that we will be taking all extra precautions and ask all returning children to: -wear a face mask throughout the day* - in exception for meals, snacks and naps. The face mask can be single use or reusable (as long as it is sanitized daily). -continue to do pick up and drop off at the front door. -all children are required to wash their hands upon arrival. -all children must have averag...e normal body temperature of 98.6F (37C) when coming to daycare. The reason why we come to this conclusion is because COVID-19 is treated as a serious outbreak which requires 2-weeks closure and 2 weeks quarantine for all families and staff. We do not want to jeopardize nor inconvenient any family. It is a big transition but it is necessary for the well-being of all our families (children and staff). Thank you for your understanding. Here is the link to the final guideline from Ministry of Education: http://www.edu.gov.on.ca//child-care-re-opening-operationa *not for children under 2 years old.

Finally got the memo from Toronto Children’s services and it is confirmed that we have received the green light to open on June 12. However, there are still a lot of preparation needed for the opening so we will open on the following Monday, June 15 instead. For all the parents who has already paid a full fee, no extra amount is needed for June. It will be from July onwards.

Highly recommended these journals for children over 7 years old. They have journals for 7-10 years old and 11 and up. The books are full of inspirational stories from real life that they can relate to. It is also full of amazing activities that help children to build a health self-image. FYI, the 7-10 journal requires a 'buddy,' to help. I hope you will also find it helpful.

I have received information from Toronto Children's Services today that they are making final preparation for licensed daycare centres to open. So far, they have provided us guidelines they are currently using for emergency daycares centres. I will be providing parents a copy once the guidelines are finalized for licensed daycare centres from Toronto Children's Services. In brief, here are the changes that parents will be expecting to see: -smaller group size -changes in dai...ly routines (due to smaller group size) -parents are only to pick up and drop off at the door -certain play materials will not be available (sensory and toys that is hard to clean) -frequent sanitary procedures (twice on high touch areas and toys washing routines). A parent asked me the other day if physical discipline is okay... To make a point, I just spoke to my son and though I only remembered to spank him a handful of times between 2-3 years old, he remembered differently and a lot was his answer. However, he remembers why he got spank, understands he ‘deserved’ it but wishes I would use another way to get the message through. So I hope this can shed a light on why I don’t believe spanking is a good idea because no hugs and sorries can erase those memories away.

June is not the month to open either. No worries. I hope all of you are well and continue to stay sane! With the nice weather we are having lately, it does make physical distance very difficult especially families who reside in high rises. Nevertheless, go enjoy the sun and remember to practice safe distancing: no more than 5 people out at a time (people whom you are quarantining with); 2m apart from others you are not quarantining with; mask if you are in enclosed space; hand washing and proper sanitary procedure at all time.
