It's Fried Chicken Fest Again! https://friedchickenfest.ca/blog/ Starting this Saturday, it runs until Saturday, January 23rd. Check out the facebook page to see all the restaurants participating, it's bigger than ever.... We are doing "Coq au Crispy". It's the best of both worlds, coq au vin, which everyone loves meets fried chicken which everyone loves even more. So, it's crispy fried chicken with a red wine sauce of bacon, mushrooms and shallots. We are serving this with creamy mashed potatoes and buttery, basil green peas. We even got some divided take out containers so we can serve this tv dinner style, your chicken stays crispy, your sauce stays saucy, and your peas stay in place, (hopefully). This dish will be available starting this Saturday, on it's own or as part of a family supper. Looking for the perfect gift for that special someone on your list? "How to Steak Tartare" cooking class coming to a screen near you in January. We are putting together a cooking class for January. Sometimes, giving someone an experience is more rewarding than giving them a thing. This class will be called How to Steak Tartare. It is a two-parter and will take place over two weeks. In order to make proper steak tartare, you need a sharp knife. So, week one we will pick... up your best knife and local knife maker, Jesse Delnea will sharpen it for you. This man is a genius with knives. On Wednesday, January 13th, at 7pm he will lead a zoom class on knife sharpening and edge geometry. Then, the following week we will bring you all the ingredients to make a classic Steak Tartare and we will return your newly sharpened knife. Then, on Wednesday Jan 20th, at 7pm, I will lead you in a class on how to make a proper, hand chopped steak tartare. You will make enough tartare to share, if you are feeling generous. In this class, you will prepare the classic version, but I will provide ideas and recipes for contemporary variations. This should be a lot of fun!
