Little Heroes Hockey Academy

Good afternoon Parents and Coaches. I apologize that it has taken me so long to reach out to you about the upcoming Little Heroes hockey season. We wanted to have all of the appropriate information and weigh everything heavily before making our decision. I have been in constant communication with Fraser Health, Chiefs Development Group, Viasport and Hockey Canada. I have also had many conversations with the president of Chilliwack Minor Hockey. I am coaching in CMHA and have ...been privy to all the conversations with every association and not just Chilliwack. In light of all of this information, and with very heavy hearts, my wife and I have decided to cancel LHHA for the upcoming season. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has, or will cause any of the families or kids associated with our program. We understand the importance of an active healthy lifestyle while also factoring the mental health that comes from being part of this team and the social interaction. We just feel that with all that is going on, with the nature of our program, it is just not responsible to carry forward with this season. Seeing as how we are entirely volunteer based, I just do not feel that this is a responsibility that we should ask of our volunteers. The preparation and everyday workload would be an excessive amount to ask of volunteers that are already stretched thin with everything else going on. The simple fact that we have many immune compromised children in our program, coupled with the close quarters we would need to carry out the program and the used hockey gear, it would be extremely difficult to keep everyone safe. Factor in that by nature these kids will not be able to social distance as well as the government requires, and we could potentially have health issues arise. Also, when you factor in the sheer size of our program when you include coaches and off ice volunteers, the kids would have to be divided heavily this year which would not allow for many icetimes per child anyways. My wife and I love this program and love these kids. We have gotten so close with all our families over the past four years and will miss all of you this year. With that said, we will be (pandemic willing) re-opening next year. We definitely want to continue the program and we hope that all of you sign up again next year. We hope that all of you and your families stay safe in the coming months and enjoy all that life has to bring each and every one of you. Just an update on the start of the season guys. As of right now we are still unsure if we will have a season this year. It will begin at the end of October at the earliest if it starts at all. We want to give Chilliwack minor hockey time to start up and see how things are going and follow their lead. There are just so many factors that are unique to our program which makes this extra challenging for us. I have been in constant contact with the president of Chilliwack minor h...ockey, as well as the chiefs development group and via sport and health bc for guidance in this matter. Currently our stance on it is we don’t know if it is responsible on our parts to have a season this year and potentially put individuals at risk for a sport. With that said, we are weighed heavily by the reality of the extra quality of life this provides for these kids and parents. Mentally, being part of this program helps many kids and we are taking that into account. We will update more as Cmha progresses into their season. Stay safe!
