0 - 3 months 3-5 naps (30-45 min naps) . 4 - 8 months 2 - 3 naps (morning, afternoon + late afternoon nap) . 9 - 15 months 2 naps (morning, afternoon)... . 15 - 18 months 1- 2 naps (2 to 1 nap transition) . 18 - 36 months 1 nap (mid day nap) . 36 months + 1 nap or quiet time * . Children usually transition out of a nap between 3 - 4 years old. . Short naps are common and take time to fix, but you can stretch them out with consistency and patience. . The best sleep is motionless sleep . Babies have more restorative rest when they sleep on a stationary crib, bed, or a bassinet. . As babies get older it becomes more difficult for them to get the deep sleep they need when they are not in a consistent, quiet, and motionless sleep environment.... . Relying on naps in strollers or car seats when running errands during the day will compromise the quality of sleep. Of course there are always exceptions! Finding a balance will keep everyone happy and well rested. . P.S. I remember this day so clear! We decided to take Ethan out for the day... he will nap on the go we thought... He was too excited to see everything and everyone around him. Eventually he did nap for only for 30min.. See more
