Getting the flu shots in the clinic or pharmacy, here are some tips for after care.

Little Mountain Medical Clinic 13.01.2021

Clinic updates Flu shots are now available! https://www.healthlinkbc.ca/health-feature/flu-season... As we approach flu season, we recommend flu shots, particularly for anyone who is at higher risk of more serious illness, for example children, the immunocompromised, and the elderly. This year flu shots will only be offered for children under the age of 5 and any of their close contacts registered at the clinic (i.e. parents, grandparents) due to physical distancing constraints. Appointments will be booked through the admin assistants for your family unit. The appointments will only be for the flu vaccine. If you need to discuss anything else with the doctor, please book a separate appointment. BEFORE your appointment: Are you having any COVID compatible symptoms, travelled outside of the country, had any close contacts with COVID or been advised that you need to be self-isolating? If so, please wait until your isolation period has ended or call the office if you have questions Are you covered under MSP for the influenza vaccine? If not, please be advised that additional charges may apply. The flu shot takes about 2 weeks for it to potentially start working. If you have been exposed to the influenza virus before the vaccine has had a chance to take effect, it is still possible for you to get the flu. DURING your appointment: Bring your care card with you Wear a mask/face covering in the office for anyone over the age of 2. For children getting the live nasal spray Flumist, the face coverings can be lowered below the nose. Wear a short sleeve t-shirt or loose top which is easy to expose the upper arm where you will be getting the injection. Jackets/sweaters off. We won’t be able to observe you in the clinic but please stay close by (outside the office, on the 3rd floor or in the building) for about 10-15 minutes after your vaccine to ensure you aren’t having a reaction AFTER your appointment: Typical reactions include arm swelling, redness and discomfort, low-grade fever, headache, fatigue, body aches. These should resolve within a few days and you can take Tylenol or Advil for your symptoms If you would still like to get the flu shot, but our clinic cannot offer it to you, please look into getting it at a public health immunization clinic or pharmacy. Most pharmacies are offering it with pre-booked appointments. https://immunizebc.ca/clinics/flu#8/49.246/-123.116
