It has been one year since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and we find ourselves back in unprecedented times, a time in which we would look forward to celebrating with our families but are restricted in our ability to being with our loved ones in the fight against COVID-19. Nevertheless we must continue all efforts in ensuring the health and safety of families across our communities remain of paramount concern. We want to thank the incredible membership of LiUNA and all f...rontline workers who have shown such courage and commitment to protecting the most vulnerable in our hospitals, longterm care homes and communities. With immense gratitude and respect, I want to thank all construction workers and all LiUNA members across all sectors for your continued perseverance. You are the backbone of our economy, of our communities and of our country. I know that this is a challenging and frustrating time. But we will get through this, we will overcome this and we will come back stronger than ever. We must continue to support our local establishments. We must improve vaccine rollout in this country and ensure that all essential workers are able to be immunized. We must continue to fight for the health and safety of all LIUNA Members, families and communities. LiUNA response to Provincewide Emergency Break, Ontario, April 2021 With ICU rates soaring, Ontario will enter a 4 week shut down beginning April 3 2021. As frustrating as this is, difficult but prudent decisions must be made in order to keep our communities safe. We need to work together to collectively combat the virus once and for all. We must continue to support local businesses who have faced immeasurable implications. Check in on loved ones and keep your mental health s...trong. Look out for one another and stay united. We must remain vigilant and stay safe. We will get through this. The construction industry is deemed essential and therefore remains open. All health and safety protocols must remain strictly enforced, without exception. Working collaboratively with employer partners and government, LiUNA will continue to ensure all frontline workers are protected. We must continue to advocate for paid sick leave and increased support for business, workers and families who have been impacted by the ongoing measures of COVID-19. We must strengthen our vaccine procurement and rollout and work strategically to immunize all who wish to receive, with a priority on at-risk Ontarians and essential workers. We encourage all LiUNA Members to receive the vaccine at their allotted time. This is not an ideal situation but necessary to the health and safety of our communities. Swift action is needed now more than ever and over the next 4 weeks we must see all levels of government come together and make necessary improvements to current guidelines that prioritize the health and well-being of all Ontarians. When you invest in and improve infrastructure you invest in jobs, create opportunities and strengthen communities across the country. This week, LiUNA International Vice President and Regional Manager of Central and Eastern Canada, Joseph Mancinelli, appeared infront of the Michigan Senate Committee on Energy and Technology and the House of Commons Special Committee on the Economic Relationship between Canada and the US to highlight the binational importance of Enbridge Line 5 and fight for thousands of jobs for LIUNA members in the energy sector. Our advocacy remains strong with industry and government and we will continue to ensure that we never back down and never surrender as we fight for the jobs of LiUNA Members.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. -For the Fallen On behalf of LiUNA Central and Eastern Canada we observe a moment of silence to honour the courage and integrity of the men and women who serve and who have served for the freedom of our country. To our veterans and active members of the military, to your families and in memory of all ...who have fallen in the line of duty, we are forever in your debt. National Construction Day Today and everyday we celebrate the diverse, highly-skilled Members of LiUNA who continue to build stronger communities and critical infrastructure across our cities, provinces and country. You are one of the foundational pillars of the Canadian Economy and leaders across the construction industry. We honour your strength, perseverance and resilience! We also thank all construction workers across Canada for their continued efforts across the industry and throughout our country. LiUNA Strong!
