The first post in a little while! It's been a busy summer with lots of projects to post now that I have some time. This tv table was made out of Eastern White Pine with a hand-hewn and ageing process to make it match the customer's original barn beams. The 6-inch thick slab has push-to-open inset drawers and a flip-down centre shelf for media players. The old world surface texture looks and feels amazing, I'm really excited to try this technique on more projects.
The Shape of Chairs to Come. This half-scale chair is a prototype for an upcoming set of dining chairs in red oak. The legs are drilled and wedged into the 2-inch thick seat. The connection so strong the chairs don't need leg stretchers but the tapered and scalloped profiles keep everything looking light.
Isolation time was the perfect opportunity to learn to build chairs. This matching pair of lounge chairs are made from red oak with a blue-brown tinted beeswax finish. They are super comfortable and the large armrests are perfect for writing or resting a drink. The fish scale pattern upholstery is courtesy of Eeva Siivonen's sewing skills.
Next on the list is a bedroom makeover in local cherry. Century homes never have enough closet space. This plan expands a difficult closet into an empty stair cavity. It is also surrounds that closet with built-in shelving and dressers for maximum storage in a minimum space!
This beautiful 100-year-old door that had its ugly white paint removed and refinished. The natural oil finish finally lets the old-growth wood shine again. A custom blackened oak handle was inset to modernize the hardware.
