This week’s tune from "The Boucher Sessions" video series is Canarios. This piece was written for a lute, which was the predecessor of the guitar. Although wr...itten by Spanish musician Gaspar Sanz in 1674, it always reminds me of a Cape Breton fiddle tune as the dancing rhythm alternates between 6/8 and 3/4 time signatures. Canarios is more from the nylon string, classical repertoire, but my new Boucher SG-51 is the first steel string guitar that I’ve played that I feel delivers the tonal colours, dynamic variety and depth of expression for an effective interpretation.
