The holiday season is a great time to take a minute to slow down, breathe, and recognize all of the things that you love! take a look at what some of the Live & Learn participants are acknowledging this holiday season.

L & L had a blast in creating Nature snow globes and Holiday Ornaments with the Elora Centre for the Arts last week. Participants also finished their Coffee house mugs, participated in Archery and had a great takeout lunch with Eastside Marios. A great week had by all

Here's your Monday morning headlines from our Supportive Arts program! Last week was 'Triangle Tree Forest' week, where we incorporated design, collaboration, ...mark making, patterning and learning from one another. We used oil pastels on spray-painted triangle templates to share ideas about designs for trees in all four seasons. Students volunteered to teach one another a set of marks or pattern to add to their trees. ECFTA Arts Instructor Eileen MacArthur helped us build on each other's ideas and created a lively, shared forest of trees. The act of repetition encouraged artists to consider variations on a design they already used. For our second project we practiced drawing trees by layering oil pastel, starting with the leaves and then adding the trunk and branches! During Mindfulness & Movement, Steph Toohill brought us lively choreography cards with "stickman" figures to inspire dance movement in our bodies. These figures mirrored shapes we have been exploring in our first weeks together. Dancing is always a favourite with this group! ECFTA Arts Educator Judy Anderson continues to work with the group on our collaborative mural (stay tuned for more on that later!!!) Here's something heartwarming to brighten your Monday! Last week our all-inclusive Tuesday & Thursday Supportive Arts sessions were all about nature's palette ...and scents! We used our imaginations to wander out into nature to paint "en plein air". Our source photo helped us create these vibrant autumn acrylic landscapes in oranges, greens and blues on black canvas. ECFTA Arts Educator Judy Anderson loved seeing the many variations and expressive brushwork done by all our amazing young artists. Two of our participants even created work using AJ Casson’s 'Little Island' as inspiration! So great JD and Kerri! During Mindfulness & Movement with our serenity leader Stephanie Toohill, we used our sense of smell to find moments of mindfulness with sprigs of fresh mint, coriander leaves, cinnamon bark and a drop of lavender oil. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the beauty of nature and (literally) stop and smell the coriander! This week in our Supportive Arts program we created soft and beautifully-smudgy chestnut horse drawings using various shades of conte and tra...nsfers, led by our talented ECFTA art educator, Eileen MacArthur. A wonderful group of drawings by all of the artists! We ended our session with Mindfulness & Movement, where we explored our sense of sight by looking through kaleidoscope windows with the insightful Steph Toohill. The colours helped us see everyday objects with new perspectives and offered our minds the time to find joy in unexpected places. This program is made possible through the support of an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant. Today is International Fetal Alcohol Awareness Day. Over the years Laurie Whyte and her team have organized a wonderful event at Riverside Park to raise awaren...ess. Some key points you should know: At least 4% of our population has FASD (more than Autism and Down Syndrome combined) It is permanent damage to brain and body. It is most often completely invisible. Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is a diagnostic term used to describe health effects on the brain and body of people prenatally exposed to alcohol. FASD is a lifelong disability. Individuals with FASD will experience some degree of challenges in their daily living, and need support with: motor skills physical health learning memory attention communication emotional regulation, and social skills to reach their full potential Each individual with FASD is unique and has areas of both strengths and challenges. Another week of adventure, fun and learning Happy Labour Day weekend everyone

Getting ready for another week of online learning! Last week we had lots of fun continuing our healthy relationships lesson. We played movie trivia, did lots of drawing and played Pictionary!

This month has come and gone so quickly but one thing is for sure I have a lot of smiling faces who are so happy to be back at the Live & Learn Centre

Took full advantage of the beautiful weather today and enjoyed a morning of Frisbee Golf and a picnic lunch at Riverside Park followed by a trip to the boathouse for ice cream and a trip to our Gangsta Garden to harvest some of our Acorn squash :)

Happy to be BACK!!! We had an amazing first week back in program. I can’t tell you how much I have missed seeing everyone. This whole situation has been very... challenging but one thing is for sure I am so proud of my team for facing adversity and so appreciative to see a little light at the end of the tunnel. Looking forward to the day when were all back together . Have a great weekend everyone :) See more
