Who do you want to be in 2021? Each year, we have members pick a word to guide them through the coming year. It’s a lot more fun than making a New Year’s resolution and it can be very effective. Choose a word or a phrase that is meaningful to you; That gives you a mission, passion, and purpose for 2021 and can serve as an easy, quick reminder to keep you on track with what matters most to you this year. To help you figure out your word consider:... What do you want to focus on this year? What do you need more or less of? What would you like to see change? Once you come up with your word, write it down and put it somewhere you can see it. Be creative: Write it on a rock and put it on your desk. Make it your screen saver or phone’s wallpaper. WIN WEDNESDAY! This week we want to share Stephanie’s story with all of you! The first photo shows her range of motion before coming to LIVE WELL, the second photo shows her range of motion after a year spent with us at LIVE WELL. Her strength and preserverence is inspiring, and we are so blessed to be part of her journey. I was in an accident 11 years ago and have struggled with mobility issues ever since. I have massive headaches, sound sensitivity, and a lot of pa...in in my body. Regular gyms are too loud for me to attend, and when I would exercise at home, I never knew if the pain I felt was good pain or bad pain. I gave up trying. I needed guidance, but I didn’t know where to turn. My mom’s friend from book club mentioned Live Well to her, and my mom immediately called me to tell me about it! I called Brian that night and went to look at the gym the next day. I was an athlete my whole life, but after my accident I was unable to work out. For 10 years I felt stuck, but coming to live well helped me feel athletic again. Though I am still limited, I can feel confident that the exercises I’m given are helping me progress. The mobility in my arms has changed drastically; I have gone from body weight lunges to reverse lunges off of 4 risers while carrying weights! My legs feel stronger, my arms feel stronger, my mobility is improving, and I feel hopeful for all the changes to come in the future! I tell everyone that if you had asked me 5 years ago to draw up my dream gym, it would be Live Well. The gym is quiet, the class sizes are small, everyone there is so friendly and non judgemental. All victories are celebrated, big or small. The kinesiologists take me as I am on any given day. When I feel good, they push me. When I am having a bad day, they change my exercises to suit my capabilities. I feel so supported on my journey to recovery, mentally and physically. I look forward to seeing people in my classes, I have built relationships with people. Live Well has given me hope, and reconnected me with a part of myself that I have missed so much. Welcome to our Fall into Fitness Challenge!! If you haven’t already heard this program will run fromOctober 1st-30th 2020. The goal of this challenge is to earn 25 points per week by engaging in these major components of fitness: *cardiovascular exercise, *resistance training ... *flexibility training The point structure will work as follows: * 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise is worth 3 points. * 6 -10 Resistance or weight training exercises = 2 points * 5 minutes of stretching or flexibility work = 1 point * A LW exercise session would therefore earn a member 6 points - as it typically covers all three of these areas. There will be a draw for a prize at the end of the month for 1 lucky member! The risk of high blood pressure (hypertension) increases for all of us as we age, however, incorporating exercise into your lifestyle can make a big difference! If your blood pressure is already high, then exercise can help you control it. At LIVE WELL our highly trained staff of Kinesiologists will design a customized program for you that will incorporate physical activity into your daily routine. According to the Mayo Clinic Regular physical activity is proven to make your heart stronger, which means your heart can pump more blood with less effort. If your heart can work less to pump, the force on your arteries decreases, lowering your blood pressure. Becoming more active can lower your systolic blood pressure the top number in a blood pressure reading by an average of 4 to 9 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg). That's as good as some blood pressure medications. For some people, getting some exercise is enough to reduce the need for blood pressure medication.
