As the saying goes, if you are from Chatham-Kent, you always come back! While originally from the area, I spent my childhood growing up in Windsor and my adolescence and adulthood in Burlington. A few years ago, I made the decision to come back on my own and start anew in a smaller city. Though my parents, brother, and many of my friends are still in the GTA, I am lucky to have an amazing family base of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins here. I have also made some incre...dible friends along the way. At the time, my first business, Cashmere and Oak was only a year old. When I became an entrepreneur, something very special happened to me; for the first time in my life I finally felt like I truly belonged to something. I had found my niche. My new world was spinning in creativity, learning, excitement and wonder. Moving to Chatham-Kent helped me find my center. The people I have met since have solidified my love for business. I have respect for entrepreneurs who run businesses, both small and large. I decided to go back to university and finish my degree. I am proud to say I have one semester left to complete my Honours BBA! During this time, I also started a second business called Miss Kay's Cookies! Running both businesses while finishing school has proven difficult but incredibly rewarding. I learned a lot about myself throughout this process. I am grateful for the opportunities! When COVID-19 hit, I really thought both businesses would end. With the fantastic support of our local community, I am happy to say that both have survived and are thriving. The people and incredibly talented small business owners of our county make me so thankful to be a part of such a creative and innovative community. I am proud to call Chatham-Kent my home. Thank you CK for your support! Kara Wenner #LivingCK #baCK2CK #ShopCK #SeeYouInCK #CKOpportunities

#LivingCK locals looking to learn a new sport and make friends in a new league, join Thames Grove Disc Golf. Thames Grove Disc Golf founded in 2018 with the construction of a nine-hole course at the Thames Grove Conservation Area in Chatham. We hosted the ribbon cutting in the fall of 2020 the course has increased in use and our Facebook page grew tremendously. For those unfamiliar with the Disc Golf sport, it shares many characteristics with traditional golf but the major... difference is throwing specialized discs into a basket to advance. Navigating challenges on each hole, disc golfers spend their time surrounded by nature. Thames Grove Conservation Area is a beautiful place to place to play with mature trees, walking trails, naturalized areas and the Thames River. Disc Golf is accessibility that provides an excellent opportunity to get outside and be active. Thames Grove being a nine hole course and easily walkable with lots of shade available. Disc Golf also has the benefit of having low cost of entry with discs ranging between $10-$40 and no green fees. It also takes less time to play than traditional golf, with a full round of 18 holes being played in as little as 1 hour. The inaugural Thames Grove Disc Golf league is set to start in the spring of 2021. It will consist of weekly league nights, where players can compete against each other for year-end prizes, as well as a weekend time slot for casual rounds and fun formats like doubles. All skill levels are encouraged to attend. Interested participants can join our Thames Grove Disc Golf Facebook page to get the latest updates on league events, meet other players, ask questions, arrange tee-times (no booking required) and locate lost discs. All are welcome in the Thames Grove Disc Golf group. #CKOpportunities #CKSports #baCK2CK
