Someone asked me about resiliency not too long ago & I told them it was like a muscle I had to grow. I was thinking about it last week & I remember this story of how someone once called me & left a message. She asked me if I could make my dessert taste less tar-like. This person is totally entitled to their own opinion. Their taste buds are not my taste buds & my taste buds are not your taste buds. What I don’t think they understood was that there is a person behind Living ...Lotus. I'm not sure what this person would have done had I answered the phone. Resiliency seems to be the theme of the year & I feel so fortunate to be part of a community with so many great women who help me grow this muscle every day. To name a few: Leigh @leighrighton Naomi @sayhellosweets Karen @blueheroncheese Vaun @softsoul Audrey @sweetnsassy Ona @onachanjewelery Cheryl @halfbakedcookieco Alia @alialedoux Happy International Women's Day! And thank you, tar lady. I'm just going to keep on going. : The wildly talented @leighrighton (whom I feel is the right arm of LL!) See more

Where does chocolate come from? The short answer - it comes from farmers that farm the cacao tree to produce such a decadent thing as chocolate! But also: Chocolate comes from a tree named Theobroma cacao. The Greek translation of Theobroma is the food of the gods. Each variety of cacao tastes very different from the other. ... The cacao tree needs high humidity & thrives in areas that are 20north & 20 south of the equator. It needs about 40-100 inches of rain per year. It will not bear fruit in the first year but will bear fruit in the 2nd & 3rd years bearing 25 to 50 pods. It will keep on bearing fruit for about 25 to 30 years. So to put this into context each cacao pod contains about 40 cacao beans & it takes about 500 beans to make 1 lb of chocolate. Isn't the cacao tree so magical?? Let's take a minute to thank our cacao farmers and cacao trees. Wait until you hear about the fruit. I seriously can't wait to share it with you all! x A See more

Our founder was fortunate enough to be included in the glosays podcast ! Glo Says is a podcast about local makers and entrepreneurs based in Canada. It highlights their backstories and how they got to make, sell or share what they do. 6 years ago we built our chocolate studio inside Makerlabs and Gloria was kind enough to interview four of us makers in the building.
