The first decorated willow wreath of the season. This one went over to @straightandarrowboutique for their shopping night tonight it's full of dried larkspur and statice. Keep an eye on my feed for wreaths that will be for sale. The pussy willows are out early this year! #flowerfarmer #livingstoneacres #fieldtovase #igrewthis #grownnotflown #albertagrown #buylocal #laclabiche #athabasca #driedflowers #driedwreath #pussywillows #embracebeauty

It's about this time of year new gardeners or first time flower growers get a thumb that wants to start glowing green. Here are a few tips for the new growers. 1) Read the backs of your seed packets. They matter...a lot. Know your last frost date (around here I use June 1 for ease) and start your seeds at the earliest point (but no sooner!) So if the packet says 6-8 weeks, start seeds April 1. 2) You're going to need lights, especially at this time of year. Leggy plants will... struggle, I use 6500k T8 shop lights. 3) Don't use those peat pots, they are horrible. They dry out easily and dont break down in our short seasons, especially in our dry springs. 4) Keep soil moist during germination, but not soggy, never soggy. I always bottom water and lightly mist the top. Any questions? Ask below :) Happy growing! #flowerfarm #laclabiche #farmerflorist #albertagrownflowers #flowersofinstagram #grownnotflown #buylocal #albertagrown #albertaflowergrower #plantstarting #germinationstation

It's International Women's Day. We have come so far, but we have a long way to go toward equality for women, even here in North America. So today, I'm celebrating my daughters, I'm praying that the world they reside in as women will value them as equals in every aspect. Not only their achievements, but also their personhood. Happy International Women's Day.

Seeding snapdragons today These ones are Chantilly snaps, one of the first if the snapdragons that blooms. Forgive me while I grow nearly 50% peach/coral flowers. Sorry, not sorry. This weather has me feeling anxious to play in the soil! What are you planting soon? #snapdragons #snap #laclabiche #farmerflorist #albertagrownflowers #flowersofinstagram #laclabiche #embracebeauty #albertagrown #buylocal #grownnotflown #fieldtovase #igrewthis

Dried zinnias. Not typically a dried flower, but I think it's pretty! All of my dried blooms are hung upside down away from sunlight. Some things I specifically grow for drying and some blooms are dried because they weren't sold for whatever reason and I didn't want them to go to waste. I just love having flowers to play with when its winter before seed starting begins! #driedflowers #zinnias #livingstoneacres #fieldtovase #igrewthis #albertagrown #buylocal #laclabiche #farmerflorist #grownnotflown #buylocal #albertagrown

Getting a little bit real here. You know what you need to make a seed and bulb order? Hope and a lot of optimism. They are a little short on supply here. I'm working full time now, but I'm not willing to give up my passion of growing flowers for my local community. I love it all so much, it's too difficult to give it all up. The smiles, the creative outlet, the satisfaction in seeing an arrangement come together, the beauty of seeing a community support it's own. But, it's hard, and with covid uncertainties, it's harder. Nothing about business is easy these days. When you buy a seed, you express hope that there is future beauty. I'm going to buy the seeds. I don't know how next year will look, but... there's always hope.

Nothing beats the smell of a fresh wreath. You all are about your evergreens! This is my most popular wreath style this year. Comment or message if you'd like one. $45, they are made to order. #laclabiche #livingstoneacres #flowerfarmer #farmerflorist #evergreenwreaths

As cases soar here in Alberta and in our community, it is easy to feel anxiety. For some, mask mandates and vaccines represent hope, a light at the end of the dark tunnel and something we can DO. For others, they represent oppression, regression and pain. We can hold space for both. For some their actions are about compassion, care and respect. For others, their actions represent rebellion and disregard. Other people's motivations are usually hidden from our view. We don't of...ten get a good look into other's hearts, as we dont often know our own motivations fully. In light of that, I vote for kindness. Stay safe and kind my friends. : @laramietraczphotography
