The gang from Living Water Plumbing and Gas Fitting had a great time giving the walls of the West Kelowna Salvation Army thrift store a fresh coat of paint today and will be back tomorrow to finish the job. The thrift store is anticipating being able to open in the next short while and Living Water Plumbing and Gas Fitting will be working hard to make some required upgrades. Their generous donation of $116,300.00 goes towards operations and increasing food stocks in food banks across the Okanagan Valley. Our first morning of the Community Kindness Challenge.

Our story, our challenge. It was just over a week ago when Stu and I were sitting and talking about what to do with the employee's that he was bringing back using Canada's 75% Federal Wage Subsidy. I mean it has really slowed down. A lot of the plumbing renovations and upgrades we would normally be doing are on hold. I mean it's really slow these days. We can only clean the shop so many times and with the physical distancing requirements we can only have so many people on on...e job. The Federal Wage Subsidy is a great thing but a lot of people are getting paid to do tasks that are redundant. People are even getting paid to stay home. Our discussion continued on to how the news is literally always bad these days. I set the filter on my phone's news feed to stream only non Covid related news and if much at all comes up its from over a month ago. What could we do to help. We discussed the possibility of bringing back an employee or two to be employed in the community making a difference. Recent news about the Salvation Army's struggle to provide critical services to an exponentially growing client base gave us an idea. A few phone calls and physically distanced meet and greets later and we had the rough frame work in place to use our excess man power (funded by the Federal Wage Subsidy) to give back to the community. The money with which we were provided to bring back employees is going directly back to the community. Plumbers may not necessarily be known for their creativity which got us thinking that there were others out there with ideas even better than ours... The Challenge. What can you do to give back? This challenge is an ideal teamwork exercise for your company and perfect for parents staying at home with children. Whether it's cleaning up a portion of your neighborhood or writing cards and letters to seniors or front line workers we can all forget the gloom for just a little bit and make things around us a little better.
