Here is a quick run down of our pandemic cleaning and sanitizing protocols and why it’s super important to please arrive on time for your appointments After each haircut all our tools are sanitized with Barbicide and Clippercide, the tools need to sit in the Barbicide for ten minutes before use the next client and all surfaces and chairs are wiped down and sanitized as well. All capes and towels used are put in the laundry and fresh ones are used for each client. All of this work doubles the amount of time it usually takes for a haircut so we are only able to accommodate half the amount of clients in a day that we usually can. We have no room for walk in’s so there is very little wiggle room with our fully booked days. It’s different, but we are making it work! Thank you so much to our clients for all your patience.

Just a reminder that masks are required for our clients and stylists right now! If you can, please bring a mask from home for your appointment. We will have disposable masks available for a fee, but we encourage everyone to invest in a reusable, washable mask! Let’s try and keep the waste down.

The protests happening all over the world against police brutality and systemic racism that began last week are prompting many children to ask questions. Parents are having to address issues of race, injustice and privilege with their children. Experts say that it is never too early to start talking to your children about racism. If you have the luxury to wait to talk to your children about these issues until you feel the time is right, then you have a privilege a lot don’t.... Black children do not have this luxury. From a very young age many black parents have to prepare their children for the cruel possibilities of being treated differently than their peers simply because of the colour of their skin. Every staff member at Lizzy Lee and Me comes to work everyday because they have a passion for working with children and appreciate the incredible joy that they bring to our lives. We are committed to building a safe space for all the children that walk through our doors and recognize that we still have much more work to do. A good place to start is with reading, for both children and adults. A lot of us need to learn and re-learn, teach and re-teach, and re-examine what we thought we knew. @huitoa on Instagram has created this amazing resource of books that centre black lives and are written by black authors. These books are a great starting tool to use when teaching children and adults alike about what it means to be Anti-Racist and how we can do better.

Well, we made it through May, one of the longest months of the year, both literally and figuratively! Tomorrow we open for business again but in a different sort of fashion than we are used to. We are so excited that the closure has been lifted, and are working hard on getting ready to open again.
