Is your firm looking at subsidy useage. Just be cautious and avoid this: 34. Are there penalties for non-compliance? Yes. Due to a specific anti-avoidance rule, an employer will not be eligible to claim the wage subsidy for a claim period if the employer (or a person or partnership that does not deal at arms-length with that employer) participates in a plan that has one of the main purposes of effectively reducing the employers qualifying revenues for the current reference... period, in order to qualify for the subsidy. Where this anti-avoidance rule applies, the employer will be liable to a penalty equal to 25% of the amount of wage subsidy that is claimed in its application, and will have to pay back any wage subsidy that it received. If an employer knowingly, or under circumstances amounting to gross negligence, generally makes, or is involved in the making of a false statement or omission in its wage subsidy application for a claim period, the employer is liable to a penalty (commonly referred to as the gross negligence penalty) of up to 50% of the difference between the amount of wage subsidy that it claimed in its application and the amount of wage subsidy to which it is actually entitled. Do not accept calls stating CRA and they have suspicious activity on your SIN number..
This from a friend.. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE... SCAMMERS Hello everyone. Just a heads up/warning. I received a letter this week allegedly from Canada Revenue Agen...cy telling me that I owed $2,331.84 in taxes! The 6-page letter looks absolutely legit!!! They have my full address and my entire social security number (SIN). The phone number they provide to call and pay is wrong, but only by the four last digits, which I realized only after cross-checking with the CRA actual website. Please share this with everyone you know. They prey on the vulnerable. It looks REAL!!! I really panicked for a few minutes... I also checked online and realized that other letters similar to this had been sent out recently. See more
