Some are fully colored up, a few are getting in the last of their adults colors. Will have black headed and red headed available, along with a couple orange head and dilutes. They will be in the covid pickup room starting this Sunday, and people will be able to come by and make their picks. I will be contacting people on the wait list first of course, but if you would like to be added to the wait list just send me a message. Short list for finches this year.

Stainless Steel Coop Cups for sale! I have seen a lot of birdies out there with problems with bacteria and fungus in crops and bellies, and one of the main culprits are plastic food and water dishes. These plastic food and water dishes are the ones you get with a new cage, or buy for cheap from pet stores. Plastic dishes cannot be properly cleaned, the material is slightly porous and will harbor and grow bacteria and other nasty surprises. They are also flimsy and can be a p...ain in the butt to deal with and secure in cages. I use only stainless steel bowls in all my cages, one for water, one for seed, one for pellets and one for fresh chop. They are easy to install, easy to change and easy to properly clean as the stainless acts as an antiseptic. I purchase these bowls in bulk so I will always have some ready for use and to save money, and are far better than anything you can find in local pet stores. I will also be offering these for sale to all past, present and future birdie clients, and at a much lower cost than what you will find online elsewhere. These are good quality coop cups, better than you find at pet stores as the wingnuts are solid metal and not just stamped tin. Comes in two sizes, 10oz for seed, pellet and chop for smaller birds, 20oz for larger or multiple birds and as a water bowl for all birds. I like to use the 20oz as water dishes for all birds as it is big enough for them to take a bath in as well. All my birds have developed a good routine, about an hour before I begin my rounds of changing out all bowls I will hear a roomful of splashing, as everyone takes their daily bath, and then has a good drink when the bowls are changed out with fresh water. Apple Cider Vinegar for Bird's Health! Would like to share with everyone something that has worked very well for me, apple cider vinegar for birds. ACV works as an antiseptic, and the organic nature works as a probiotic for birds. This helps keep birds healthy, and is a great preventative measure as well as a treatment for many bacterial and fungal problems birds can have with their crop and digestive system. I highly recommend everyone picking up a baby from me use this in ...the birdie's water, 50uL (one drop) in every ounce of water is what I have been using here as a preventative measure for quite some time now. Make sure that you only use Organic Apple Cider Vinegar with the "Mother" in it, as this is the kind with the beneficial properties. Feel free to do your own research, quite a bit out there on the internet about this, just remember the little grain of salt as while this is beneficial it is not a supercure or anything like that. Higher doses can be used to treat problems such as AGYD, but should be done with care and treatment programs should not last longer than 10 days. I believe so strongly in this that I will be offering for sale bottles of the ACV I use pretty much at cost to people picking up babies from me. Also in the picture is one of the upcoming baby cockatiels wearing a fashionable little crop bra. If anyone is having troubles with a cockatiel with slow crop, ask me for details on making and using a bra, will save a baby cockatiel's life. See more

Sorry for the lack of updates lately everyone, I have been very busy again here last few weeks! I have tried to stagger my budgie clutches, but once one pair goes into breeding mode and starts to give out those hormones, it can trigger a whole bunch more! I have had about 70 little babies on handfeeding, and will be posting quite a few handfed budgies in the next few days, with several more clutches coming in the week following. Many of my conure pairs are now spending a lot ...of time in their nest boxes as well, getting ready for the spring season. Also on the way are cockatiels (6), parrotlets (2), lovebirds (2), and a rare black linnie and a black capped conure will also be available from current clutches. I will also be offering up about 30 gouldian finches, black and red heads, around 9 months old and ready to breed themselves. The gouldians will all be in the covid pick up room, and people will be able to come and pick out their birdies in person. I am trying to increase my english and hybrid budgie breeding program, but am having a hard time finding good parent pairs that are not extremely overpriced or come from bad conditions. I plan to keep the next clutch or two of english budgies for myself, and hope to have many more pairs up and making new little babies in about 12 to 18 months. I will begin contacting people on wait lists as soon as babies are ready to go, have fun and stay safe everyone! See more

!SCAM WARNING ON SITE! -Another one to roll your eyes at! Another scammer spamming comments on this page, directing you to a parrot for sale website. Very professional looking page as well, but full of the same warning indicators that just scream scam. I will include a link to the website just for fun at the bottom of this post, take a look and have a good laugh. Here are some things to watch out for when looking for a birdie online and this scam has them all... 1. The perso...n writing the comments that give you the site looks in any way fake, in this case it is a new facebook page with all the profile updates and pictures and such created in the past couple of days, or over a very short period of time 2. Parrot eggs for sale. No breeder is going to sell eggs for cheap when they could hatch them themselves. The eggs in the website pictures are clearly fake, they are plastic eggs with little holes in the bottoms. Parrot eggs cannot be shipped in any case, even if they were real they would die in the shell during the lowered temperatures and constant jostling of shipment. Proper incubation of an eggs also requires costly equipment and much experience, and handfeeding hatchlings requires round the clock handfeedings every 2 hours at minimum, special foods and even more experience. 3. Bird selection. Sites like these always have birds available that you can buy now, even species that you cannot find anywhere else for love nor money. Endangered species, ultra rare species, those requiring extensive knowledge and facilities and even ones completely illegal to own. No real breeder anywhere in the world would have a selection like this, not without a major government funded facility with an entire cadre of specialists. 4. Prices! This is the biggest indicator, this site has impossible to find birds that, when they are available somewhere, sell for 50,000 or more and these guys list them for 700. Oh my, I'll take 20! Biggest mistake is then listing budgies for 350-1600. There are many other indicators, and these sites are very common nowadays, using viral marketing to try to lure people in. I have seen these for birds, puppies, kittens, all animals basically. Porn, dating, erectile disfunction, medicine, health, many seem to use a Denver USA area code as a proxy phone number, but it all goes overseas. Here is a link to the site, have a look and a good laugh, and let anyone who you think might be at risk know about these scammers. It appears to be safe as far as viruses go, passed the scans, just don't add anything to a cart or give any information and make sure to close the tab in your browser afterwards. Not much harm in looking with all the safeguards of a modern browser. Let me know if anyone gets a safesite warning or anything. Stay safe everyone! http://parotsforsaleonline.com/

Another batch of cockatiels are now available, fully weaned onto seed, pellet and lots of daily fresh chop. Very friendly little birdies, there are standards, lutinos, emerald pieds, a cinnamon pied and a pearl. All babies have been DNA tested for gender, and will come with certificate of registration. I will begin contacting people on the wait list today, and don't worry if you are on the wait list and I do not contact you, there are more on the way in a couple of months.

Little Joe's Companion Birds 15.12.2020

Another batch of handfed budgies are available again, fully weaned and eating seed, pellet and daily fresh chop. There are 3-4 pictures of each baby. I will begin contacting people on the wait list shortly, and don't worry if you are not contacted, there is another batch on the way in a week with more yellows and greens and all other colors. Gender determination is about 80% accurate at this age, but is only important to those planning on having babies. I have never been able... to see a difference in behavior or personality based on gender. And for those concerned about egg laying and egg binding with females, as long as there is no nest box or nesting area egg laying is unlikely. As for egg binding, this can be prevented with a proper diet and the placement of a cuttle bone and mineral block in the cage, which all budgies should have access to. I have hundreds of eggs laid here every year, never had a case of egg binding. Please note, budgies are not as outgoing or confident as the larger parrots. While they are comfortable with me, being handled, picked up and carried around, it can take a while for them to get used to a new person and develop the same level of trust. See more

Boy has the last couple of months been busy! Quite a few babies will be posted within the next few days, these lutino lovies will be among them. A little spooked of the big camera at first, these guys are super friendly, always ready to come out and play with me. As you can see in the video they do very well on the shoulder as well. I have started handfeeding most babies a bit earlier now, taking them right when their eyes are about to open. Playing with all the babies in the...Continue reading

Wing Trimming! I know that this is a very contentious subject, there are people who believe that a birds wings must be fully trimmed for safety, and others who believe that even a partial clipping is cruelty. So all I can do is add my opinion to the mix and give you some information so you can decide for yourselves. Basically, there are 4 levels of trimming 1. Fully flighted and untrimmed. This is the way I keep my personal pet birdies. Flying is great exercise, and for me ...Continue reading

Little Joe's Companion Birds 25.08.2020

Another batch of handfed budgies are now available, fully weaned onto seed, pellet and fresh chop. Gender assesments at this age are difficult, and accuracy can only be about 80%. I will begin contacting people on the wait list Thursday Oct 15th, and don't worry if I do not contact you right away, it takes a while waiting for responses. Band numbers are in the comments of the pictures, 2 pictures per baby, just let me know the band number when picking babies to reserve. And of course there are more budgies on the way as you can see in the last couple of pictures.

Little Joe's Companion Birds 12.08.2020

The Suns Are Almost Ready!!!! Yup, this clutch of suns are on their last few days of handfeeding, will be posting individual pictures and contacting people on the wait list in a couple of days. Wonderfully friendly babies, would spend all day playing with me if they had the chance and my favorite birds to raise. Not to worry if I don't contact you right away, it takes me a while waiting for responses, and there are currently two more clutches of eggs in the nests right now!... Also in the next few days, posting of Lovebirds, Parrotlets, many Budgies and Cockatiels that will be ready in a week or less. Also, thank you all for the 1000+ page likes! We've come a long way here at Little Joe's Companion Birds in the past year, expanding my breeding areas turned out very well, with many beautiful babies going into handfeeding. Its taken a very long time to get to this point, and I have learned so much along the way. I am really enjoying being here doing what I do, and I hope all of you out there with the birdies are enjoying yourselves with your feathered companions as well!

Little Joe's Companion Birds 05.08.2020

Sorry I haven't been posting much lately, 50+ babies on handfeeding right now, lot of budgies and other babies coming up soon! As you can see the quakers are coming along well, finally old enough to have had their first day of shoulder training after a nice messy feeding. They have yet to try out their wings but are mostly feathered now and flight and tail feathers are growing in, going to be very friendly. I spend about 6 hours a day handfeeding, and am able to give a lot of... shoulder time to those babies old enough to be out of the brooder. The quakers, lovies, parrotlets and even the budgies like to sit up there and watch as the other babies get a feeding, giving a continual running chirpy commentary. And a warning for all of you out there, if you have baby birds on your shoudler and playing with you, a pair of safety glasses or goggles are a great idea. I had several near accidents lately wearing my smaller every day glasses, with claws and wings getting way too close to the eyes during playtime. I have switched over to perscription safety glasses that are better able to protect me from over enthusiastic babies. Update on other babies: Many budgies are coming, some available later on this weekend and many more for next weekend, and more in the nest as well. First batch of cockatiels are about a week away, another batch 4 weeks and many more eggs in nest. Linnies are a couple of weeks away, as well as green parrotlets, and two clutches of blue parrotlets are hatching or in the nest now. Couple of lovies are about a week away and I will be posting pictures of the Suns in a couple of days and contacting those on the wait list. The new pickup room is coming along well, should be able to finish most of it off this weekend.

Little Joe's Companion Birds 03.08.2020

Next batch of baby cockatiels enjoying their shoulder training. Love them when they are this age, beginning to form a good trust bond with people. Very important to have them out and on you so they can get used to the idea that you are a "safe space" for them. Plus it helps that they are super cute! You can hear the youngest one still beg-screaming for food, even though he is full to the brim. Another clutch will start handfeeding soon, and have 6 more pairs sitting on eggs t...hat I have high hopes for, even though they are mostly young pairings. Have two clutches of linnies and one of parrotlets in handfeeding now as well, pictures to come, and another clutch of linnies hatching right now. And of course, a ton of budgies. You can't have enough baby budgies! Construction of the new pick-up room is coming along slowly, now doing drywall and laying down the insulated subfloor, will be ready for when the colder weather settles in. Gotta keep everyone safe! Not my video, but still pretty funny. Can you guess what he is saying?

Little Joe's Companion Birds 13.07.2020

Just wanted to give everyone a little warning, the scammers are out in force again right now. Been hearing from a lot of people about attempts being made, and even had several scams tried on me in the last couple of days. On the upside, here is a little video of my Jenday Conure Jenny. 3 years old or so now, she rides around with me when I prep food for the budgie/linnie/finch room, and likes to snuggle up behind my ear. But you see that little dent in my ear lobe? She likes... to latch onto there with her beak when I do the rounds on the cages and have to bend over a lot. Keeps her steady, and is kinda cute, but she actually pierced the other ear when I startled her once by dropping some food bowls. I first saw her about a year ago in a local pet shop, her previous owners had surrendered her. She was looking extremely stressed, full wing clip, and was listless. I knew I had to get her out of there, and the people at the pet store knew me and let me have her for a fraction of the tag price. A little rough the first few months, but doing great now. Wings have grown back full, no longer bitey and does not leave me for longer than 5 seconds. If anyone out there is considering adopting a rescue bird, go for it if you feel up for it, of the 5 birds bonded to me 4 are rescues. It does take time and patience to re-establish a trust bond but is worth it! See more

Well, I'm up for another mid night feeding, only one baby budgie but still has to be done. While waiting for the formula to warm I though I would give everyone an update on what is going on this week, eggs in nest, babies in handfeeding and so on, something I will be doing every week from now on. But first off, some pictures of FLUFFY QUAKER BABY BUTTS! Only two babies in handfeeding from a new parent pair with their first clutch. Always love checking out the fluffy butts, th...Continue reading
