Happy Mothers Day from the staff of LK Metal
How can your home or work HVAC system help with COVID-19? At this point all of us should be well aware of the basic steps we can take to minimize or stop the spread of the novel coronavirus. If you have to leave your home, then washing hands frequently, keeping 6 feet apart and sanitizing surfaces are basically obvious at this point. What other things can you do at home or at work to help reduce the chance of spreading? A recent ASHRAE article shows us that you can use y...our HVAC system to help. L-K Metal has a wide variety of products to help with the following points. We have high MERV filters, HRV and ERVs, exhaust fans and UV (ultra violet) lights Duct Mount and Portable HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filters. Talk to your HVAC contractor about these items or call us for a new, high MERV filter. Here are the key points taken directly from this article and how they relate to your home and work HVAC systems: 1. Increase outdoor air ventilation (use caution in highly polluted areas); with a lower population in the building, this increases the effective dilution ventilation per person. For Commercial Buildings: Disable demand-controlled ventilation (DCV). Further open minimum outdoor air dampers, as high as 100%, thus eliminating recirculation (in the mild weather season, this need not affect thermal comfort or humidity, but clearly becomes more difficult in extreme weather). For Residential Buildings: Open windows as much as possible when the weather permits. Run HRVs & ERVs (Heat & Energy Recovery Ventilators) on high as much as possible. You may need to bypass dehumidistat or timer controls to get them on fully. Run exhaust fans continuously as this will force outside air to infiltrate into the home to replace the exhausted air. 2. Improve central air filtration, upgrade your filter to a MERV-13 or the highest compatible with the filter rack, and seal edges of the filter to limit bypass. -Keep systems running longer hours, if possible 24/7, to enhance the two actions above. -Consider portable room air cleaners with HEPA filters. -Consider UVGI (ultraviolet germicidal irradiation), protecting occupants from radiation, particularly in high-risk spaces such as waiting rooms, prisons and shelters." To all our HVAC Contractors, all of us at LK Metal understand how important it is that you protect yourself (and your families) while still providing important services to the community. If you have to share a work truck with others, then you should consider getting into the habit of regularly wiping down the interior of your truck. It doesnt require much and you can use simple soap & water or disinfectant wipes. #covid #coronavirus #hvactechnician #stayhealthy
