Schools across the region are going back today. Please be mindful about Bus Safety. Hundreds of thousands of students start and end their day with a ride on a school bus. We depend on these busses and their drivers to transport our children safely. Another factor to the equation is other drivers. ... Drivers play an important role in school safety. They need to be alert and use extra caution in school zones, near school buses and near playgrounds. The stopping-for-school-buses law applies everywhere, regardless of the posted speed limit- on highways, county roads, city, town or village streets. DRIVERS, KNOW THE RULES! On an undivided highway (not divided by a median), do the following: When you approach a school bus from either direction (from the front or the rear), and it has the alternating amber lights flashing, you must be ready to stop. This is a warning that the alternating red lights are going to begin flashing and the school bus is stopping to allow students to get on or off. If you pass a school bus that has its alternating amber lights flashing, pass with caution. When the school bus stops to let students on or off, its alternating red lights will begin flashing. You will also see a stop sign extended from the left side of the school bus. You must come to a full stop about 20 metres (about 4 to 5 car lengths) away from the school bus. This distance allows drivers of other vehicles behind you to see the flashing lights and students crossing the highway. You must remain stopped until the alternating flashing red lights are turned off and the stop sign on the drivers side is no longer extended. On a highway divided by a median, do the following: When you approach a school bus from the rear and its alternating amber lights are flashing, follow the same procedures as you would for a highway that is not divided by a median. When you approach a school bus from the front and the school bus has its alternating amber or red lights flashing, you may proceed with caution. Watch for pedestrians. Remember, this is only on a divided highway. School bus travel is very safe. Injuries and fatalities, which are very rare, happen more often outside the school bus as students are boarding and leaving the bus or crossing the street. FINES: The penalty for failing to stop for a school bus with its alternating flashing red lights activated is $543 and six demerit points.

***Please Share*** SUPPORT THE SQUADSAVE A LIFE The Lloydminster Rescue Squad is committed to providing professional emergency services to our community. ... As with any rescue mission, when it comes to water rescue situations, time is of the essence! We need to give our dive team the ability to communicate with each other and with the shore line tenders. Most dives are limited to no visibility and this is a very dangerous situation without adequate communication. Currently, we are operating with equipment that is over 10 years old, so it is our hope and desire that we can fund raise enough money very quickly, to upgrade to more sophisticated sonar equipment to help locate loved ones, as well as dive communications equipment, diving gear and boating equipment so that our efforts to help save and rescue lives can be immensely improved. We need your help. We are grateful for any donation in any amount. Help Spread the Word! Please share this fundraiser with others even if you cannot give a donation. Thank you from the members and volunteer of the Lloydminster Rescue Squad.

If you encounter a black bear: Never feed or approach a bear or cubs; Make a wide detour if you see a bear at a distance. Dont get too close to a bear for ...the sake of a photograph; If you suddenly encounter a bear, calmly back away, speak in low tones and do not look directly at the bear; Stay calm DO NOT RUN. You cannot outrun a bear; Move towards a tree or a rock, which may protect you from the bear. Climbing a tree is not an escape, as black bears can easily climb trees; and In almost all cases, a black bear will threaten but will not attack. If an attack does occur and no escape is possible, you should defend yourself. DO NOT PLAY DEAD. If you have an aggressive encounter with a bear or a bear is repeatedly doing damage in your community, contact your local Ministry of Environment office or call the Turn in Poachers and Polluters (TIPP) line at 1-800-667-7561 or from your SaskTel cell phone at #5555. Please do not report bear sightings unless they are aggressive or invasive.

In order for us to be an effective police service, we must have the publics trust and confidence, which is a necessity for any police agency and a cornerstone ...on which we base our policing response. We understand that events, both recent and past, have had an impact on the publics perception of the police. We want you to know that we are listening and we understand the weight of what is happening in the United States and here in Canada. Theres no denying that racism exists. We are actively working to combat it, both within policing and society at large. We hear the concerns being raised by citizens everywhere and recognize we still have strides to make as the provincial police service. Our employees are trusted to uphold our core values of honesty, integrity, professionalism, compassion, accountability and respect. For the rare instances where an employee does not adhere to these high standards, they will be held accountable for their actions. There are internal processes in place to respond to these situations. Further, we would support an independent oversight body in the province. We must all come together to stand up for the rights of others. While there is still progress to be made, we continue to work to strengthen relationships with our communities. We commit to bias-free policing and vow to always pay attention, both as members of our communities and as RCMP employees. - The Saskatchewan RCMP
