Tracey Butler works in housekeeping at Loch Lomond Villa. This past year, Tracey was inspired like many to do something to lift the spirits of the people around her. Lucky enough for the Villa, Tracey has a wonderful gift to draw. This December, Tracey painted the windows of both of our buildings to help with the holiday spirit and now as we all joyfully enter spring, Tracey has committed to sprucing up the windows again sharing fun spring themed paintings. We are so lucky to have so many wonderful staff that go above and beyond to brighten the days of our residents & fellow coworker. Thank you, Tracey!

Every couples months we like to reflect on the residents who have passed and give thanks to all that they brought to our Villa family. As the pandemic carries on, we continue to miss old traditions at Loch Lomond Villa. One especially being the services we held four times a year to honour our residents who have passed with their fellow residents and loved ones. Please join us in honouring and celebrating the names listed above. Hopefully in the near future, we can bring back the traditions that mean so much to us all!

What a wonderful surprise!! A huge and heartfelt THANK YOU to Karen Wagg at Pampered Chef and her caring clients who donated much needed baking supplies to our family kitchens. Did you know Loch Lomond Villa offers families an opportunity to come together with their loved one for family get togethers in our well stocked family kitchens? Birthday celebrations, Friday night pizza parties or just baking with Mum again in our kitchens is encouraged and welcomed! Of course, these services are temporarily on hold while we continue our fight against Covid 19 in our province. We're all very much looking forward to resuming life as normal again soon! And when we do our kitchens will be ready!! Thank You Karen!!!

Introducing...ABBY! Thanks to a wonderful grant from the TELUS Atlantic Canada Community Board, Loch Lomond Villa Foundation was able to purchase 3 of these amazing pieces of technology. As a resident moves past this wall mounted device, ABBY comes alive and begins to interact with the resident. ABBY is preprogrammed with images, videos, music and memories that are meaningful and personalized to each resident. What a wonderful way to ease the pain of isolation since the onset of COVID 19 in our world!! Nursing homes across the country are finding new and inventive ways to combat loneliness. Loch Lomond Villa truly appreciates the support we received for this new technology from our friends at TELUS. Thank You so very very much!

A Volunteer’s Point of View: Jim Landry’s Story What is it like to volunteer? Will it be a chore? Is it hard? Can it make you anxious? Will you regret taking it on? Of course, it can and often will be all of these things But theres more. It can be fun, it can provide you an opportunity for personal growth, and it can be extremely rewarding. In my experience, the latter experiences always outweigh the former. To give some examples, the first little project that I too...k on at Loch Lomond Villa was to supervise a landscape crew of newcomers to Canada. We were tasked with pruning, staking, mulching and fertilizing some of the trees on the property. I’m not a project manager, nor do I work well with groups of people, let alone in an environment where language could be a barrier. I was worried about it, what if it rained? What if there was not enough work to keep do to keep them interested? The day came and went as days do, and I was left with a tremendous feeling of accomplishment. It was so much fun. Loch Lomond Villa made me feel so good about the effort I put in. On another occasion I was planting a memorial tree for veterans at the Village. We were a small group and it was a small task and I happily did most of the work with the invited participants watching on. It went well, and we discussed the meaning of the little tree and ceremoniously put it in is new home. When we were done, someone tapped my shoulder and told me to look at the window in the lobby that overlooked our ceremony. There was a veteran there, with his arm brought up in a salute. Will volunteering give you a vivid memory that will last a lifetime and make you well up inside every time it surfaces? You bet. #wordsfromthewise #lochlomondvillafoundation See more

Martha McGrath works at Loch Lomond Villa at our Village reception desk and as our Spiritual Care Coordinator. With the spiritual care part of Martha’s job, she coordinates the ministers for services, hymn sings, bible studies and much more! We have been very blessed here at the Villa, to have such a great community of ministers and priests that are willing to come in and visit when possible. As Martha is a eucharistic minister and because of our recent world situat...ion with COVID, she had been able to pass communion to residents wishing to receive it. One of Martha’s favorite things to do is her one on one visits with our residents of both the Village and the Villa as well as chatting with the tenants in our high-rise buildings. The part of the Martha’s spiritual care job she enjoys the most, is making as many connections as possible with everyone she is around and getting to know them. One of the most difficult parts of her job, is when she has to say goodbye to one of the residents or tenants. End of Life can be a very difficult time for people, and Martha works very hard to make this process go as smoothly as possible for all involved. One thing the spiritual care department has always done here at the Villa, is to hold a memorial service four times a year for the people that have passed away. This is a way we let the families know we here at the Villa are still thinking of them. Because we live in such a different world these days, we have had to unfortunately discontinue these services. So please join us in knowing that the following names listed in this post, are residents and tenants that have passed since our last service in February and we want you all to know that this for now, will be how we can honor them. So please keep these people and their families in your prayers and know we still think of them often. God bless them all. You can donate today to the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation to support Martha’s efforts to remember and celebrate our residents who have passed. https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/DonationPage.aspx

Grace & Aubrey’s Story This Remembrance Day, we want to honour our resident, Aubrey Moore and his late wife, Grace. Aubrey Moore says he always respected old people. He was brought up to respect his elders and taught to give back. He wasn’t rich, but he always found a way to give. And that is why he is so appreciative of the gifts the donors of Loch Lomond Villa Foundation contribute to improving the quality of life for the residents and families of Loch Lom...ond Villa. When Loch Lomond Villa was built in the early 1970’s, Aubrey and Grace used to drive by the Villa and remark That’s where the old people live. Now he says, I am one of them! Aubrey met the love of his life, Grace, when they were 12 years old. Grace taught Aubrey how to play the guitar and they shared 70 happy years together. They married at age 22 and as a military family spent their lives living all around the world, but Canada was always home. Many years later, when the time came that the Moore family needed help with their day to day living, Loch Lomond Villa was their first choice for their new home. Grace was in the later stages of Alzheimer’s and admitted to Elm House at the Villa. Aubrey made his home just down the hall in the independent living apartments and later in supportive housing. Aubrey visited Grace every single day and spent hours playing the piano and singing to Grace, just like they did 75 years ago in their hometown. Aubrey eventually moved into Elm House as well and was able to be even closer to Grace when she began her end of life journey. Sadly, Grace passed away early 2019, and Aubrey misses her terribly every day. On November 11th of 2019, Aubrey was honored to be selected as the Veteran Reviewing Officer at the annual Saint John Remembrance Day Ceremony. Even though Aubrey gets around these days in a motorized scooter, he stood tall and proud when saluting his fellow comrades during the service. It was one of the proudest days of his life. https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/DonationPage.aspx #lochlomondvillafoundation #wordsfromthewise #veterans See more

Winter will soon arrive but thanks to this wonderful donation, our residents have nothing to fear! They'll be warm and toasty! The busy fingers of a local 90 year old has produced these remarkable lap quilts which she has donated with love to our wonderful residents. Such incredible talent! We are so blessed!
