Flexibility is in the systems and details Winnipeg Airports Authority’s state-of-the-art corporate office is primarily constructed with demountable walls that will allow for long term flexibility. Training Rooms are built with movable walls to allow various sized rooms to be created, each equipped with carefully integrated audio visual systems and zone lighting controls. Every square inch is accounted for including storage space for training tables and chairs behind a series of by-pass panels some of which are finished in dry-erase plastic laminate. Programmatic customization on a day-to-day basis was the client groups’ objective. Mission accomplished. #interiordesign #design #custom #flexibility #dirtt #demountablewalls

Beyond our people, our software and how we use it plays a bit part in how we develop, explore, communicate and resolve our projects. Today we give some much needed love to the 3D and Building Information Modeling (BIM) and rendering we typically employ as part of our design process. #architecture #interiordesign #designprocess #explore #communicate #rendering #bim

The Downtown Commons is a thoroughly urban project. Constructed on a constrained site in the downtown, close to iconic gallery, retail, arts, and education nodes, the Commons’ primary organizing principle revolves around the premise of diverse living. Market and Subsidized suites, of varying size and target demographic student, senior, new Canadian, and working professional are threaded throughout each floor of the 14 storey structure. Major shared social spaces promote i...nteraction between tenants. Anticipated sectional connections to the adjacent Plug-In Gallery, as well as prominent visual connections to the area, provide further opportunities for tenants to interact with their immediate surroundings as well as each other. Sustainable strategies reinforce the project’s urbanity; infill and densification, adherence to the Kyoto Protocol’s greenhouse gas emission targets, reduction of on-site parking requirements that reflect its immediate context even creative project financing through green loans reinforce the Downtown Commons’ position as a product of physical, socio-economic, and cultural context. Awarded the 2016 Governor General’s Medal in Architecture - Canada’s highest distinction for design - the ARTLab at the University of Manitoba is one of several highly successful collaborations between @lmag_esp and @patkauarchitects . The anchor component of a suite of spatially and programmatically connected projects that completely reimagines the Art, Music, and Theatre Departments at the U of M’s Fort Garry Campus, ARTLab’s design was driven by notions of bridging, conne...ction, and invention. Daylighting concepts drove the organization of major spaces, with studios positioned along a completely glazed facade, the primary urban edge, so as to take full advantage of the opportunities presented by northern light and views to the Quad beyond. Workshops and support spaces are located in quieter parts of the building, with a more controlled approach to light, shelter, and views. An atrium and dramatic feature stair, flooded in daylight, provides vertical connection throughout the building. The edge condition facilitates unique ways for the building to interact with its context: tunnels and bridges connect to the historic (and repurposed) Taché Hall building adjacent, as visitors literally pass underneath it’s volume to access the building’s main entry, and quieter facades are treated with aluminum screens that promote the growth of vegetation up the building to create a changing, evolving green face that filters and modulates both views and daylight. Tabor home was a project we did back in 2017 in Morden Manitoba. It is a 120 bed personal care home and was just over 76 500 square feet. This design incorporates creating a residential living environment with resident-centered spaces and access to social support from families and friends. It also provides ample natural light and access to secure outdoor green spaces. Recreation multi-use facilities are the social vibrant hubs for communities. They are centres of sport and celebration. We completed the Tundra Oil & Gas Place in Virden Manitoba in 2011. This venue includes a 1200 seat ice hockey arena, fitness centre, walking track, breakout rooms, centralized canteen and more! We applaud Virden for their commitment to provide such a facility to their community and take every moment we can to revisit these spaces, watching MJHL Oi...l Capitals games, attending Curling and Rodeo events and catching up with our clients. Thank you to @lindsayreid.photo for helping us capture this building and the spaces within.

Reinforcing the need of community and support services during these difficult times is important. Today we look back at a project we were very proud to be a part of for the RM of Ritchot and the community of Ste. Agathe, completed in late 2018.

In 2002, in order to maintain their status as Winnipegs premier social and business club and to attract new members, The Manitoba Club commissioned Environmental Space Planning to develop a multi-phased Master Plan for the rejuvenation of their facility. The clubs vision was to seamlessly blend the newly renovated areas into the existing club to accommodate todays and tomorrows business, social and personal functions, while maintaining the Clubs traditional charm. Taken by... one of our own, here are a few shots of some of the spaces we have done thus far. Stay tuned for more photos of a space we recently finished, and a project in the works! #manitobaclub #manitoba #winnipeg #architecture #interiordesign #design #traditional #details #history

Happy World Architecture Day Everyone! Celebrating today’s special occasion, we have a look back at a project located in Winnipeg’s downtown core. The Winnipeg Millenium Library was completed in 2005 and features a four storey solar glass wall, two panoramic glass elevators and a grand staircase; connecting the street to the top level of the Library to create a light filled communal gathering space. @patkauarchitects @winnipegpubliclibrary #winnipeg #worldarchitectureday @archdaily @archdigest #publicspace #glassstairs #libraryarchitecture #communityarchitecture #worldarchitecture #library

Staying safe, healthy and active with summer in full swing, we reflect back on the conceptual design for the Concordia Health & Fitness Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Planned as a 90,000 sq.ft. recreational and rehabilitation facility as part of the broader Concordia wellness campus, the project’s form is derived from the organizing and stacking of specific program elements within, highlighted by a two storey elliptical glass pavilion that houses an expansive fieldhouse. T...he project serves as a reflection of a broader institutional mandate to promote activity, health and well-being within the community. #architecturelovers #archdaily #archidesign #interiordesign #communitydesign #archdesign #healthandfitness #fitnesscentre #healthdesign #designcommunity #lmarch #esp #concordia #rendering #wellness #wellbeing
