https://www.lmorgan-content-writer.com/ You Need a Copy Editor Because . . . Writers do not see their own mistakes.... Before you invest in expensive print or a large digital file, you need fresh eyes to look it over, as writers do not see their own mistakes. Ideally, those eyes belong to an experienced copy editor who is detail-oriented, precise and expert at grammar, spelling and word flow, ensuring that your work is polished for publication. Copy editing goes well beyond spell checking, and it is much more than proofreading. When I copy edit, whether it is destined to be online content or it is intended to be printed, I check that it is consistent, concise, correct and without repetition, focusing on the small details. I use tracking in Word format, that you can accept or reject. I never change a writer's work, just correct it. I edit for: Canadian Press style consistency Syntax Punctuation Grammar and spelling and much more depending on how much help is needed. Proofreading comes once you have a ‘press proof’ to compare to your manuscript. It means checking that word and page breaks fall at the right place, and all looks 'OK' to go to press. The next time you see it it will be printed. It is not copy editing or making wholesale corrections to text. Are you planning on self-publishing your own book? Copy editing should only commence once your comprehensive edit is complete. Be sure to leave a few weeks for it to be done properly, depending on the size and complexity of your publication. Having been a print production department head at a large publishing house for many years, I can also provide you with insight into the requirements and ethics of book publishing. Producing a book is a manufacturing process that can include escalating costs, poorly explained contract options, and possible libel infringements. If you email me with a sample of your manuscript in word (.docx) format, I will give you a free, competitive estimate for copy editing your manuscript.
