Local Colours Artists are hard at work creating new artwork for the spring show Festival of the Maples on April 25. In light of developments stay tuned until we can confirm whether the Festival will take place this year. Then we will proceed to tell you all about this year's show artists and some of their brilliant new works to be available.

Local Colours Art Group has been fairly quiet over the summer creating new works, travelling and just enjoying the sunshine. Fall is here and we are all hard at work creating beautiful pieces. Three of our artists are off to Art of The Carolinas to hobnob with and learn from some very impressive professional artists and to enjoy incredible deals. Four of us are participating in the Itty Bitty Art & Craft Show this weekend in Carleton Place. Stop in to see what Pat Purdy, Barbara Jordan, Cathy Rivoire and Claire Jacobs have to offer and nothing over $150. Hope to see you there.

THIS SATURDAY, APRIL 27, MCMARTIN HOUSE ... And yet another very talented artist of Local Colours to introduce this morning......... Judith Versavel is a creative artist working in acrylics, watercolour, sometimes mixed medium, and with vibrant colour her trademark. Mood and the painting of light are all important.... Rural scenes, portraiture and figurative work, birds and their habitat are her favoured subjects. Her quirky sense of humour and whimsy shines through in her work. Judith always welcomes visitors to her 'Gallery on the Bay' in Arden, Ontario and is also looking forward to chatting with you on Saturday about her art.

Barbara Jordan is not only a professional photographer, graphic designer but also an amazing painter. The top photo is her photo of a fence (okay my fence) and the bottom photo is her painting created from her photo. She has captured the essence, the beautiful light from her photo perfectly. This is called talent.

Finger painting can be fun......Great paint day at Local Colours!

Four members of Local Colours art group (Aileen Merriam, Pat Purdy, Dayle Vanalstine and Claire Jacobs) are currently showing work at "Floral Fusion" at Streve Design in Perth, Ontario. You can get a sneak peek at the work you will see at our upcoming April 17th show at McMartin house.

TWO MORE WEEKS . And more Local Colours artists to introduce. Today, please meet Linda Svarckopf and Dayle Van Alstine. Linda has always had a profound interest in art but not until she retired and began to spend her winters in the Florida Keys did her curiosity begin to flourish. It was there that she had her first lesson and at that moment she became a dedicated student. Her ambition took her to St Lawrence College for further instructions and classes with various other... instructors. Linda and her art were honoured in December 2018 with the Artist's Choice Award, which was voted on by participating show artists, at the Heritage House Museum in Smiths Falls. She is a member of the Rideau Lakes Artists' Association, Lombardy Art Group, and Local Colours Fine Art Group, and has participated in shows in Florida and Eastern Ontario always with great results. Her art is in various private collections in Alberta, Ontario, PEI and the United States. Inspiration comes from everyday life and as she puts it 'Paintings are all around you. Just open your heart and look.' Dayle Dayle Van Alstine is a multi-media artist who feels blessed to recently take the life-long pull of art and begin to find where it will take her on a serious level. Dayle attended the Ontario College of Art in 1982, then received her Early Childhood Education Diploma in 1984. Working with children has enabled her to maintain a sense of wonder in the world. Most recently she has discovered a fascination with working with wool, sculpting the roving into art dolls. It is most satisfying to watch people become enchanted by these dolls. She also finds inspiration on her family farm in Maberly, Ontario, using images she finds there as subjects for her paintings. I'd like to capture a little of this lifestyle before it slips away. Dayle is a member of the Rideau Lakes Artists Association. Both Linda and Dayle are excited to chat with you about their art on April 27 at the McMartin House in Perth.

Introducing Pat Purdy. Another one of Local Colours very talented artists whose work you will see on April 27 at the McMartin House in Perth during the Festival of the Maples. PAT PURDY I am an abstract artist, who loves to experiment with different materials and techniques. I mainly work with acrylics, resin and acrylic pours. I have also worked with alcohol ink, acrylic ink, watercolour, mixed media and encaustics.... I relocated to Perth (home for me) from Cobourg, Ontario and Winnipeg, Manitoba. In Winnipeg I won the Betty Andrich memorial award at the 2005 Red River exhibition for best acrylic abstract work. I showed extensively in Winnipeg in group and individual shows and participated in the Manitoba art expo, for several years. My work is in several business locations in Winnipeg, MB. Notably Alpine Animal hospital, Gillespie Vision Centre and private residences. I am a past juried member of the Manitoba Society of Artists, MSA. In Cobourg I participated in a number of juried shows (the Northumberland Art Gallery, Colborne Art Gallery, Impressario Nuwork art show and Warkworth maple syrup festival). I also exhibied in the 2013 Northumberland Hills studio tour. While in Cobourg my work was published in Nuwork and Watershed magazines. I was the featured Humm artist in April 2016 and was the top selling artist at the Grist Mill art gallery in Westport, Ontario, and have shown successfully at Local Colours Fine Art Group (Perth), Paint the Summer (Perth), Holly Jolly Art Sale (Perth), Art in the Barn (Lombardy) and Arts Carleton Place art shows. I currently have work on display at Balderson Cheese Factory (Balderson, ON), and Streve Design, (Perth, ON). I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ON APRIL 27.

Cathy Rivoire Fine artist, illustrator and writer, Cathy Rivoire, taught in the field of art and drama with the Upper Canada District School Board in Ontario, Canada. After retiring, she pursued a life long dream as a childrens book illustrator and published four books. Illness interrupted the flow of her artistic endeavours, but recently she is back on track thanks to the members of Local Colours Fine Art Group who inspired her to start creating again. Ms. Rivoire is exploring many new subjects and mediums, but always returns to her love of animals, wild and domestic. She has completed many commissions of family pets, and guarantees customer satisfaction before purchase is finalized. AND Peggy Orders I am a self taught artist who works with acrylic on wood. I paint in a realistic style, and like to keep my paintings crisp, clean and graphic. My specialty is food art, since I see the beauty in it, and enjoy cooking for those I care about! I also paint dogs, often in a Dogs at the Bar style. Please contact me if you have a pet and would like to have them painted.

Continuing with Local Colours artist introductions..... Barbara Jordan Barbara Jordan is an experienced photographer, award-winning graphic designer and fledgling painter. With a keen interest in art history and all types of images, she and her cameras have travelled around North America, the Caribbean, and parts of Europe.... My aim is to capture a moment or an angle on a subject that hasnt been captured before. Im drawn to how light transmits and refracts and my favourite painter is Rembrandt van Rijn. Barbara graduated with honours from Sheridan Colleges Applied Photography program and her work has been recognized by a number of national and international photography associations. Ms. Jordan is a member of the Rideau Lakes Artists' Association, Arts Carleton Place and Local Colours Fine Art Group, and she exhibits and sells her art year round. Her company, Bark Productions Inc. (www.barkinc.com), is located in Portland, Ontario.
