Local Food for Local Good

When we launched our Festive Food Program in November we could not imagine the incredible support it would receive. $21,500 was raised to deliver over 5,000 pounds of food to 545 people living in Northumberland County on Christmas Eve. The holiday hampers included: a prepared turkey dinner by Prep Food Co., fresh produce sourced by The Market & Smor, snacks and canned goods purchased through Food4All, homemade cookies baked by volunteers, and Northumberland Eats, Wal-Mart a...nd President Choice gift cards to allow families to purchase additional essential items for their household. We owe a special thank you to @copelandandco.realty for co-designing this program with us and taking it on as their holiday fundraiser. Much gratitude too for @marketsmor and @prepfoodco for donating their staff time and space to cook, prepare, source and package meals and food. Appreciation to @nlanduw for the contribution of Northumberland Eats vouchers and to Food 4 All Northumberland for helping us with our food order. Finally, thank you to community members who baked dozens of treats as part of the cookie exchange and to each and every donor and volunteer who gave of their time and money to make this program happen. Christmas Eve was really special in our community. A team of volunteers, donors and business partners came together to provide the gift of good food to 140 families and individuals over the holidays. It’s Christmas Eve! Today we delivered 140 festive food packages to families and individuals across Northumberland. We are in the final week of preparing for our Festive Food Program! Thanks to the generosity of folks in our community, 120 families will enjoy a traditional holiday meal with all the fixings, fresh produce and healthy snacks for 2 weeks. With the help of Prep Food Company , The Market and Smor, Food4All, and Copeland and Co Realty, we will be spending the remainder of the week preparing the hampers to be packed on Thursday and delivered on Friday. ... Thanks to the help of Lori and Nathan, we received an overwhelming amount of donations from the community which enabled us to add more and more to our hampers going to families on December 24th. With the holidays approaching next week, we remain busy prepping our hampers for delivery. We could not have done this without Copeland and Co and the generosity of our wonderful community.

Heartbreaking and troubling news to read today. According to The Globe and Mail: "Food prices will rise as much as 7 per cent over the next year the highest increase in more than a decade, according to a new report. As a result, the average family of four will pay $966 more for food in 2022 after a 4-per-cent hike this year and amid record-high general inflation." https://www.theglobeandmail.com//article-food-prices-set/...
