I am happy to report that since my last post I am recovering from my recent stroke nicely and feeling stronger every day. Although there is still more hurtles to overcome I am optimistic when it comes to a full recovery. I truly appreciate all of your well wishes and emotional as well as spiritual support. I am sure it has assisted in my recovery to date by helping me keep a positive attitude. Thank you, miss you all...

Hey Everyone, You haven't heard anything from me in quite some time, and it will probably be a bit longer before I am back to normal. Some of you may already be aware but on Jan 25th I suffered a stroke. Although it left me totally paralyzed on my left side and unable to speak clearly, I have since regained my speech, ability to swallow solids, as well as full movement of my left arm & hand. Just recently I have mastered the use of a walker and and find myself able to move my...self short distances. Although it's been a struggle, my progress to date lead experts to believe I have a good chance for a full recovery. Believe me when I say I am fighting for it... I truly hope all is well with each and every one of you! Look forward to seeing you all in the future. Miss you all.... Mur

Here's hoping all of you are staying safe, and that everyone's future Birthdays will be without Gov't rules disallowing us all to Party with our friends... We miss you all...

Thank you all for your Happy Birthday Comments! So sorry it took me so long to get back to you all but needless to say the day of my birthday was a wash... no alcohol involved. LOL!! The very next day a had a painful bout of sciatica that laid me out and just this morning went away. Just a personal message to all my younger friends... take care of yourself because your injuries will come back to haunt you later in life in many different forms... sciatica for just one example!... Love you all... Cheers!

I hope that everyone is staying safe and being cautious during this pandemic. The more we follow proper protocol, the sooner we can get back to doing the things we enjoy in our normal lives... like doing tequila body shots off of the staff at the Highwayman Saloon!

May still be closed for COVID-19 but every now and then we have a Mishap... so to speak!

Sorry everyone... we are getting lots of requests for a planned date of re-opening the Highwayman Saloon and please believe me when I say, we are financially motivated to do so sooner than later! But, we built our reputation for being that comfortable, adult only place where everyone over 19 is welcome. A place where you run into old friends, as well as meet new ones. A place where socializing is encouraged... not discouraged. A place that serves good food brought to your ta...ble by friendly staff with great attitudes... not working in fear of breaking some new normal rule enforced by WorkSafe BC. The place to be when you're tired of being at home. Indisputably... "The Heart of Canada's Best year round riding!" We our proud to be supported by the elderly residents here in Union Bay, and in no way want to be responsible for any harm that could come to them. They are part of the Highwayman Family and the backbone of Union Bay. COVID-19 is real... exaggerated maybe? I don't have the answer. What I do know is that people are dying and those that recover are likely to suffer from brain or nerve damage. I for one have very little room for anymore brain damage... LOL!! Yes, most other bar/pub operators in BC have chose to open, and some even disregard the rules... their choice. You also have a choice... Stay out of harms way... Stay safe... Stay away from public gatherings or even better... Stay home! So, as an answer to everyone's question... We've made our choice, and stand behind it. We will re-open the Highwayman Saloon when we once again can greet you at the door with a hand shake +/or hug. We will re-open when we are in no way putting our valued staff & management in harms way. We will re-open when we are allowed to re-create the same comfortable atmosphere that made the Highwayman Saloon your favorite in the first place! I would like to close this message by saying, the Boys & I truly appreciate all of your support to date and want to see all of you when this is all over... soon we hope! Stay safe! You are like Family to us and we miss you all...

IMPORTANT MESSAGE: To our extended Family... All of you that support our small business. The Highwayman Saloon has been the Le Sage Family's for just 5 years now and considering it was dead when we purchased it, we are very proud of what we've built. Our plan since the beginning was simple... create a place "WE" would go if someone else owned it. More than just a watering hole that serves up good food. A comfortable place with a friendly atmosphere and great service. A place ...you feel welcome right away upon your first visit! When it became too much for us to handle ourselves we retained the services of an avid supporter, Sparky, that in his words "loved the place upon his first visit!" As a valued manager he has helped us take "your local Rumhouse" to the next level with respect to service while maintaining the welcome atmosphere we were so renowned for... Together with all of your support we quickly climbed to the top of many lists here on the Island, not to mention the most notorious being "The Heart of Canada's Best Year Round Riding." A place where you can walk in alone, meet old friends and make new ones. Unfortunately... in the present state, Phase 2 of BC's COVID-19 recovery plan, we are unable to maintain all the little things that have set us apart from the rest ever since the beginning. Yes, on the surface it's just a business, but for us... It's much more! To us, we've done it... "The Highwayman Saloon is that place we would go if someone else owned it." A place that we have made so many good friends! A place we are proud to call our own! We are sorry but the sad truth is, if we re-opened now with all the present new rules and regulations, the Highwayman would not be the same... No hand shakes, hugs, or joining others you've just met. These are just a few reasons why we are waiting to re-open and looking forward to Phase 3 we understand should be implemented in the near future. I speak for all of us here at the Highwayman Saloon when I say we are very proud of what we've done to date and will endeavor to continue to do so in the future! We truly hope you understand. Just want to be sure that everyone is aware that due to COVID-19 we were forced to cancel Our 5th Anniversary / Customer Appreciation Party planned for this Sunday... May 31st. It would have proved the Best Yet with the Bands we had lined up for this years fully licensed Outdoor Event! The David Gogo Band, Legzz (ZZ Top tribute), Master of Justice (Metallica tribute) & Steel V As of today's date the Highwayman Saloon is still closed until further notice, but believe me when I... say we are working on ideas to re-open that will work while keeping everyone as safe as possible. Those who know us know we have built our reputation on being the place to go to mingle, meet old friends and make new ones... Hell, it's been our mission whenever possible to greet as many of you as we can with a hand-shake &/or hug upon your arrival... Enforcing a 2 meter separation just seems wrong here at the your local Rumhouse! Please Stay Tuned as we will be announcing our plans once we have safe resolutions to the present protocols & guidelines recently put in place as a condition of our re-opening...
