It's awfully brown grass, but these ewes are contented anyway. Fall is like holidays for these girls, they're done raising the lambs for the year and now have nothing to do but eat, sleep and wander across the grassland. We should all be so lucky.

Checked out the bale grazing sites today. The contrast in the amount of leaf material and colour in the spots where bales were, compared to the edge of the ring is really amazing. This is a quite old stand of grass and alfalfa, and was grazed hard this spring, so the increased water and nutrients are really benefitting it. I really love this way of feeding cattle. It takes less time, less use of a tractor, and adds nutrients exactly where you want them. Anything the cows dont eat the soil does. The carbon cycle in action!
