COVID-19 masks at school tip #5 for parents. Make sure the mask is the right size to cover the nose, mouth, and chin. If the mask has pleats, ensure they are f...acing down. Children should be taught how to wear the mask properly for maximum protection. It is important that they do not touch the front of the mask and do not pull it under the chin or into their mouth. Remind children to wash their hands for 15 seconds immediately before putting on their mask. It is equally as important to wash their hands before and after removing their mask. When washing hands is not an option, they should use alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Masks should be removed by the ear loops or ties and not by touching the front of the mask. Practising with your child when at home can help ensure that they feel confident and comfortable putting on and removing the mask on their own. Don’t forget to give lots of praise to children for their efforts to keep COVID-safe. For more information on masks, please visit: https://www.phsd.ca//guidance-for-wearing-non-medical-masks. Every time we report a case of COVID-19 in our community, we are talking about people who have been diagnosed with an illness. People with jobs, people with hob...bies, people with friends and family. Public Health works very closely with every person who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 to understand their circumstances and limit the spread. This is the nature of our work and our role and responsibility to protect the health of our community. People who are affected by COVID-19 need support and compassion. We encourage others not to pursue or spread comments about confirmed cases. If there is a public exposure risk, you will hear it from us. If you are a close contact, you will hear from us. If you are required to take specific actions, you will hear from us. You already have the tools to protect yourself. Stay home when you’re sick, screen for symptoms before going to work or school, and get tested if you have any symptoms of COVID-19. Stick to your household contacts, wash your hands frequently, keep two metres distance from others, and please, be kind.
