I always encourage my girls to step outside their comfort zones to build their self confidence! Today in our BeU Community session, we had our first virtual cooking class! Chloe who’s in grade 10 taught the rest of the girls how to make crepes from scratch. She did amazing and felt so good about herself afterwards! . It was such a fun class for everyone and it’s only the beginning to these girls developing new life skills! #empoweringyoungwomen @ Oakville, Ontario

When do you pull yourself away from your devices before bedtime? 1 hour? 30 mins? Right before bed? Do you sleep with your phone ? Most people have no idea why they have a hard time falling asleep . In most cases, it’s the blue light that is emitted from their screens that is causing them difficulty! The blue light messes with your body’s ability to prepare for sleep because it blocks a hormone called melatonin that makes you sleepy This week, I’ve encouraged my BeU Community to plug their phones outside their bedrooms, use an alarm clock and not use their phones 30 mins before bed to promote a better sleep pattern! #empoweringyoungwomen
Phubbing?! Not many people are aware of this term and the damage it causes in relationships! Phubbing is the act of snubbing someone you’re talking with in person in favour of your phone. In the support group this week, we touched upon this behaviour and how it prevents you from being fully engaged with the people around you. This bad habit is causing your face to face conversations less satisfying for everyone involved! Be aware- put down your phones- make those around you feel important and that they matter!
The BeU Community is finally underway ! In our first support group meet up, our discussion was around the negative effects of social media on mental health. The average user will spend approximately 2.5 hours per day on social media! I was surprised to find out that the majority of the girls in the community spend 7-8 hours/day! . Since social media has been invented, there has been a major increase in depression, anxiety, non-fatal self harm and suicide in teenage girls. This really saddens me and as a Life Coach for young women, I see and hear the detrimental effects that social media plays in their lives. This motivates me to educate my clients and get them on board to create the necessary change that needs to take place so they can live healthier and happier lives- mentally and emotionally!
