While the southern USA is wrapping up their emu hatching we are welcoming our first members of our 2021 mob. We are testing out new hatcher boxes and liking them so far. They are long and narrow not square. It's looking like the width will encourage the chick to keep its legs underneath its body and hopefully in those first hours of feather drying discourage splay.

A UK emu handlers facebook page has just started up. Worth a peak in my estimation. "Emu Keepers and Breeders Community Worldwide". Also the host's website has good information on husbandry https://www.emu.services/

Here is an explanation of the beginnings of emu farming. Wiluna Emu farm began in 1976-77 run by Applied Ecology Pty Ltd where Kip Venn was employed to help with research and farm management. In 1980, in conjunction with CSIRO Kip and his wife Charmian began further research into emus at their property in Toodyay Western Australia, 90 kilometres from Perth. In 1987 Kip and Charmian's Free Range Emu Enterprise was one of four to be granted the first commercial licence to farm emus in Australia.

Raising emu for the last 10 years has opened up a whole new birding world for us at the farm. We try to look upward as much as possible as there are always interesting things happening in the sky if you pay attention. It's migration time in North America and this map shows what is happening in real time. Worth a peak https://birdcast.info/migration-tools/live-migration-maps/
