Bedbugs and Fossils The worst from the time of the Dinosaurs: Bedbugs. They are now a huge problem worldwide and are evolving to resist pesticides. One Bedbug can cause our entire homes to be infested. The author could not find many good Bedbug fossils from Canada yet, but an image showing some of Canada’s most infected cities is attached. It was originally believed that Bedbugs were only a few thousand years old. The ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans suffered from their p...resence and usually used tried to smoke them out. Greek philosophers even wrote about them. In more recent studies, fossils 11,000 years old were found, and even cave dwellers suffered from them. In 2019, a comprehensive study found Bedbug relatives that were 100+ million years old. This was during the time of T Rex and Triceratops! The time frame was from DNA analyses. They fed on small rodents/mammals during that time. A fossil image and an electron microscope shot of a bedbug are also attached. They are about the size of an apple seed and the babies are hard to see. They can also hide in paper, books, clothing, computer slots and bedframes. Disturbing them causes them to spread out quickly and hide. Sources: smithsonianmag.com (Maddie Burakoff, 16 May 2019), BBC Earth, popsci.com (Rachel Feltman, 4 April 2017). See more

A few months ago I found what I was hoping to be an upsidedown ( inverted ) Greenops trilobite from the Widder fm from Arkona, Ontario. My hopes were confirmed ...after it was prepped by Malcolm T . It even has an intact hypostome. It is Mid Devonian in age, and is 2.5 cm in length X 1.6 cm wide. See more

The Field trip to Hungry Hollow on September 26th/20, had 17 members of various clubs associated with the CCFMS, come out to have fun fossil collecting. The weather was fantastic, and there was alot of fossils taken home. Hopefully there will be 1 more field trip to Hungry Hollow before the end of the year, depending on restrictions from COVID.

I’m sharing this to all CCFMS clubs plus some of our buddy clubs across the river. Yes, delivery from purchased auction items may be an issue - but we’re hoping that the pandemic will become gentle by the 2021 field trip season - so that means we can deliver in person. (As usual, planning a loaded to the bear field trip season.) Nevertheless, please check out the auction anyway - it will be fun (despite Facebook’s time lag) - and you don’t have to do the full 5 hours. Som...e of my reason is that this is an activity - and a pretty easy one at that - for our clubs to do. Some of us have also done a couple of field trips - and from the sounds of it, they’ve gone well - and people have pandemic-behaved (!! LOL) - which is really good ‘coz this virus is a scary thing. Additionally, on Oct 2nd, I’ll be attending Buffalo club’s virtual meeting - they’ll have a speaker - and it will be about rock stars. (Cool.) I’m attending so that I can report to our board so that we can better plan future meetings and speakers for our club. Buffalo has said All are welcome to attend. Hope that everyone is fantastic as well as being safe & healthy. Cheers, Ashley Pollock See more

http://chng.it/V6mWJ5Dx To ALL members of ALL clubs in Ontario. We need to fight for the right to walk the shores of OUR Great Lakes. You don't want this to happen to your favorite area. Please sign the petition so I can go to the elected representatives to have this BILL made into Law.... Thank you for your support. See more

https://www.change.org/Right_to_walk_the_Shore_Line_in_Onta Hello membership. Please take a few minutes and sign this petition. We are up to 142 signatures so far. I'm sure this could effect a number of members sooner or later. I believe it is better to be pro active. I want to submit this to each member of the legislature in Toronto. The more signatures the better. A private members bill has been tried twice over the last 10 years but has died on the floor. Once because of an election call. If all members were to sign and promote this petition I am sure we can make it happen. It should be everyone right to walk the shoreline of OUR great Lakes.

To ALL members and friends. This is a very important Post. I have started a petition to request the Government of Ontario to table "An Act to create a right of passage along the shoreline of the Great Lakes. As you can see from the picture I posted with my petition this person has stopped people from accessing a large section of the beach front in Port Bruce, Ontario. For those of us who spend hours walking the beach looking for OUR gems. It should be the right of the people ...to walk the shoreline of OUT Great Lakes. Pleas sign my petition. Thank You. http://chng.it/V6mWJ5Dx
