Jan 27 COVID-19 update for London-Middlesex. 39 new cases. Weekly case count per 100k down, again, now to 64.3 That is an impressively steep decline since our peak on January 10. https://public.tableau.com/profile/mario.elia

Here is a great chart showing what mental health resources are available province-wide in Ontario, including a few at the bottom that are relatively new.
We need your help spreading a message through the community, and hope that you will consider forwarding this post to family and friends, and sharing it on social media. We want to remind you of the importance of early testing for COVID-19. We are still seeing examples of people who are waiting to see if their symptoms go away, instead of getting tested right away AND self-isolating. These people could be unknowingly spreading COVID-19 to others in their life. Symptomatic COVI...D-19 patients can be contagious from 2 days before the onset of symptoms, until 10 days after the onset of symptoms. (Don't forget that asymptomatic COVID-19 patients can also transmit COVID-19 to others, which is why distancing, masking and other measures are so important). If you have even ONE symptom of COVID-19, book a test right away. A reminder of the possible symptoms of COVID-19: Fever or chills Cough Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing Fatigue Muscle or body aches Headache New loss of taste or smell Sore throat Congestion or runny nose Nausea or vomiting Diarrhea Pink eye We have seen numerous cases of COVID-19 patients with only ONE symptom. An isolated runny nose could be COVID-19. Someone having just diarrhea could have COVID-19. We know that part of the struggle over the past month has been testing delays at the assessment centre. We are happy to see that there are now SAME-DAY appointments available at both assessment centres. Book an appointment at https://covidtestinglm.ca Remember that you have to self-isolate until your symptoms resolve for 24 hours AND your test comes back negative. Results typically come back within 48 hours, so your time from symptoms to testing to results is much quicker than it was a few weeks ago. Much more convenient, so no excuse not to get tested anymore. (The process for quarantine for close contacts of a confirmed COVID-19 case is different. If you have been a close contact with a COVID-19 case, you have to quarantine for 14 days after your last contact with the infected individual, regardless of whether you get a negative test or not). One of our best hopes of getting case counts under control in London is for people to get promptly tested when they have symptoms. Don't delay! Again, please consider forwarding this post to family and friends, and sharing it on social media. Physicians of the London Lambeth Family Health Organization

Everyone's sick of even talking about COVID-19, I get it. But just as a reminder of why we're still taking this seriously, and why public health is asking peopl...e to take precautions that are inconvenient, read this interview with Philippe Devos, president of the medical union of Belgian physicians. Tragic what they are facing over the next few weeks. https://www.dw.com//belgiums-covid-19-health-ca/a-55451750

Important study published today in the New England Journal of Medicine, and highlights why early HPV vaccination (before 17 years old) is so important. Look at ...these curves of cervical cancer vs age. The orange line is the unvaccinated group, highest risk of cancer. Blue line was vaccinated between 17-30 years old. Green line was vaccinated before 17 years old. We want everyone to be in the green line. See more
Important COVID-19 testing update from the province today. This is good news. Asymptomatic individuals should only be going for testing under the following cond...itions: - Contact with a CONFIRMED case - Outbreak management as directed by public health - workers and residents of long-term care homes, visitors of long-term care homes, workers and residents of homeless shelters and other congregate settings The days of "if you want a test you can get a test" are done, as it was taxing the system unnecessarily to find very few cases across the province. All symptomatic individuals need to continue to be tested.
100 years ago today, Hallowe’en in 1920 right here in London Ontario turned out to be one of the most important nights in the history of medicine. https://news.westernu.ca//the-great-diabetes-idea-100-yea/

What should I do if my child has symptoms of COVID-19? If your child has one or more (new or worsening) symptoms of COVID-19, they should stay at home, self-iso...late, and get tested. Call your child’s school to let them know that your child has COVID-19 symptoms. Household members should self-monitor for symptoms Household members should monitor for symptoms for 14 days. **They CAN go to school or work if they do not have symptoms and the child with symptoms has not tested positive for COVID-19. This includes while you are waiting for the test results. **If the child has symptoms and was a close contact of someone who had COVID-19 then household members should stay home and self-isolate. Get tested Contact your child’s health care provider if you have questions about testing. Find an Assessment Centre near you to get tested. Children can often get a throat swab or swab at the tip of the nose so it is more comfortable than a deep nasal swab. When going to an assessment centre, don’t use public transit. Drive your child if you can, ask for a ride, or use a taxi or ride share. Wear a mask, sit in the back seat, and keep the windows open.
Gathering some last-minute #BackToSchool items this weekend? Don’t forget the following! #LdnOnt #Middlesex Face coverings/masks Container/paper bags to hold face covering/mask Reusable water bottle
Confirming what many of us have been suspecting for the past few weeks, restaurants and bars have NOT been the source of outbreaks in Ontario. The staff and pat...rons have been following the rules. It's private gatherings that are likely driving the recent spikes. Weddings, house parties, dinner parties, etc. Time to stop those types of gatherings before things get worse.
