Why would changing your toothbrush help stop the spread of germs?! In healthy situations, changing your toothbrush every 3-4 months is ideal (CDC recommended). Not only does brushing your teeth often with a good quality toothbrush help prevent gum disease, tooth decay and bad breathe but it is also a very important line of defense against serious illness caused by the accumulation of bad bacteria.... Viral and bacterial infections are also a great reason to change up your toothbrush. If you’re sick, or trying to prevent getting sick, using a new toothbrush is important. Bacteria and germs can build up and cause infection or reinfection if you use an old toothbrush. Remember to rinse the brushes off well after each use to prevent germs from colonizing on the bristles. It is important, always, but particularly now, to be doing all that we can to help prevent continuous spread of any bacteria or virus. Anything we can do to keep our immune systems healthy and body healthy is a great step in the right direction!
